A new study shows that half of American adults are on social networks. In fact, among American adults who use the Internet, Pew found that almost two-thirds use social media sites such as Facebook or Twitter. Even if some people don’t think social media is a trend, Search Engine Journal (SEJ) thinks it’s here to stay: Take a look at the graph below and the steep growth rates of usage across all age ranges and demographics, and the continued ubiquity of social networks in all aspects of work, play, and life. It’s hard to argue that social media hasn’t forever changed the way we interact and connect online. It’s certainly true that Twitter and Facebook have seen phenomenal growth over the past few years. Likewise, daily deal sites, which are social in nature, have also seen exponential growth. There are also telling statistics, such as 96% of millennials (people born around the turn of the millennium) have joined a social network. These burgeoning online communities have even inspired new media-based social maps. Take a look at the growth of social media in the following infographic from Search Engine Journal.
