A survey conducted by the National Health Commission shows that the five-year survival rate of malignant tumors in my country has increased from 30.9% ten years ago to 40.5%, an increase of nearly 10 percentage points[1]. This is a gratifying number. With the implementation of diversified treatment strategies such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, targeted therapy and immunotherapy, long-term survival is no longer out of reach for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer. However, there are still two major obstacles in the fight against cancer that affect the quality of life and survival of most lung cancer patients - postoperative complications and targeted drug resistance. 01 Postoperative complications The stage is in the early stage, and surgical removal of the tumor can greatly improve the cure rate. Generally speaking, the earlier the stage of lung cancer, the higher the cure rate, and the 5-year survival rate can be as high as 92% [2]. Image source: Reference [2] Despite such a high cure rate, 8%-35% of patients will still experience complications after surgery[3]. Common complications include respiratory complications (atelectasis and obstructive pulmonary emphysema), lung infection, bronchopleural fistula, etc. These complications may affect the quality of life at the mildest level and threaten life safety at the worst. In addition to postoperative complications, some lung cancer patients will also encounter the mountain of targeted drug resistance during treatment! 02 Targeting the mountain of drug resistance In the past, some lung cancer patients would think, how great it would be if there was a medicine in the world that could be taken once or twice a day to control the disease, like high blood pressure or diabetes. Now this concept has been realized in some lung cancer patients through targeted drugs: taking medicine at regular times and in regular amounts every day can control the disease. The emergence of targeted drugs has improved the quality of life of patients and also prolonged their survival. However, during the period of taking targeted drugs, patients will inevitably encounter some problems, such as: Can I take other targeted drugs if I have already developed drug resistance? If targeted therapy is not possible, are there other treatments? Will my survival and quality of life be worse if I use other treatments? 03 Experts live broadcast to help fight cancer In order to help everyone solve their confusion and clear the fog of anti-cancer, under the guidance of the Science Popularization Professional Committee of the China Anti-Cancer Association, Mijianfei Xiaofan opened the third "Feifan Power" in 2022 for Mijian friends with the theme of "Wind and Rain!
