For some scientific information: Huoxiang Zhengqi medicines are not only the most common Huoxiang Zhengqi water and Huoxiang Zhengqi oral liquid, but also include Huoxiang Zhengqi tablets, Huoxiang Zhengqi capsules, Huoxiang Zhengqi soft capsules, Huoxiang Zhengqi pills, etc.

Usage: Huoxiang Zhengqi Water, oral liquid, Shidi Shui and other oral solution preparations can be drunk directly; capsules and tablets should be taken with water.

Note: Huoxiang Zhengqi medicines and Shidi Shui are available in two categories: alcoholic and non-alcoholic .

Among them, Huoxiang Zhengqi Water and Shidi Shui generally contain alcohol . Special attention should be paid to not taking them together with cephalosporins (such as cephalexin, cefuroxime, ceftazidime, etc.), metronidazole, tinidazole, ketoconazole, furazolidone and other drugs, otherwise it may cause a disulfiram-like reaction. Other notes:

Element:

● The same ingredients are: menthol, cinnamon, licorice, catechu, costus root and borneol.

● Different ingredients: Tangerine peel, sandalwood, amomum villosum, cardamom, cloves, patchouli leaves and cinnabar are the unique ingredients of Rendan .

Platycodon, camphor, fennel, cardamom and clove basil oil are the unique ingredients of Ren Dan .

Function and indications:

● Rendan: Clears away heat and opens the mind. Used for nausea, chest tightness, dizziness, motion sickness and seasickness caused by heat stroke.

● Ren Dan: dispels wind and strengthens the stomach. Used for indigestion, nausea and vomiting, seasickness, mild heatstroke, drunkenness and fullness.

Security:

● Ren Dan: Contains the toxic traditional Chinese medicine cinnabar (the main component of cinnabar is mercuric sulfide). It is forbidden for patients with liver and kidney dysfunction and pregnant women. If the symptoms do not improve after taking the medicine for 1 day , you should go to the hospital for treatment.

● Ren Dan: Contains camphor, a slightly toxic Chinese medicine. It is forbidden for infants and pregnant women. People with spleen and stomach deficiency and diarrhea (i.e., those with long-term loose stools) should take it with caution. If symptoms do not improve after taking the medicine for 3 days , you should go to the hospital for treatment.

Don't rush to fill your head with drugs such as Huoxiang Zhengqi

Now most people know that medicines such as Huoxiang Zhengqi can prevent and treat heatstroke, but this is actually only half right.

Not all cases of heatstroke are suitable for treatment with Huoxiang Zhengqi type drugs.

In traditional Chinese medicine, heatstroke is divided into yang heatstroke and yin heatstroke .

Yangshu is the heatstroke that everyone takes for granted, which is mainly caused by long-term work in an environment with high temperature, poor ventilation and high humidity.

The main symptoms are dizziness, headache, chest tightness, thirst, sweating, palpitations, flushed face, etc.

Yin-heat refers to "heat inside and cold and damp outside", which is usually caused by people using the wrong way to relieve the heat. For example:

👉 From the hot outdoors, suddenly entering a room with the air-conditioned room turned on (can be understood as "air-conditioning disease")

👉 Taking a cold shower or drinking cold drinks while sweating can cause the skin pores to shrink, making it difficult for the body to dissipate heat and lead to heat stroke

The main symptoms are chills and headache, fever without sweating, nasal congestion and runny nose, thirst and dry throat, sore limbs, chest tightness and nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

To sum up directly: Huoxiang Zhengqi type of drugs are suitable for treating Yin heat, but not for treating Yang heat.

Yang heat can be treated with Ren Dan or Shi Di Shui under the guidance of a doctor.

If it is a moderate or severe illness (such as heat stroke), you must seek medical attention promptly, otherwise it may be life-threatening.

Summer heat prevention tips

When it comes to heatstroke, doctors at West China Medical University have always advocated prevention first .

Doctors at West China University of Political Science and Law have repeatedly emphasized the importance of replenishing water in small amounts and multiple times, replenishing salt and minerals in a timely manner, eating a light diet, ensuring adequate rest, and not being too greedy for coolness.

If you have heatstroke, you should pay more attention to your diet.

👉 Don’t drink a lot of water at once, drink small amounts and multiple times, warm water is best;

👉 Do not consume large amounts of raw and cold fruits and vegetables;

👉 Don’t eat a lot right away. Wait until the summer heat subsides before you eat a lot.

👉 Don’t eat a lot of greasy food. How can you eat it in the greasy summer? Just eat some fish, meat, eggs, milk, etc. to ensure nutrition;

👉 Don’t drink ice drinks. Some people think that heatstroke is caused by heat, and ice drinks can certainly “suppress” the heat... This idea is too simplistic and has no other use except causing harm to your gastrointestinal tract.
