Diabetic retinopathy - the killer of vision

Diabetic retinopathy - the killer of vision

Eyes are windows to the soul. We can see the colorful world through this window. When you have diabetes, you may develop eye diseases. The three major eye diseases that can cause blindness include cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. Therefore, they plague many diabetic patients and make them very painful. So how do these diseases make people blind step by step?

First of all, diabetic retinopathy is basically common in people with diabetes, because it is one of the chronic complications of diabetes and one of the main causes of blindness in adults.

Secondly, this type of disease has a long course and develops slowly, and it is not easy to detect at the beginning, because the lesions do not reach the macular area at the beginning, and there will be no obvious characteristics. But if it develops to the macular area, it will cause blindness, and the longer the diabetes lasts, the more cases of diabetic retinopathy will appear, especially for the elderly who cannot properly control diabetes, pregnant women and some patients who rely on insulin for a long time.

Furthermore, diabetic retinopathy is mainly caused by microcirculatory disorders, and the lesions refer to the lesions of blood vessels in the microcirculation. It is also closely related to high blood sugar, which can cause vitreous bleeding or a small amount of blood accumulation, and eventually lead to blindness. Therefore, strict control of blood sugar is particularly important to reduce complications.

Finally, it is recommended that diabetic patients need to undergo regular fundus examinations to observe whether any lesions will occur. The following tips on eye care are recommended for collection.

1. Don’t stare at the computer or mobile phone for a long time. Take proper rest and do eye exercises.

2. Eat more fruits and vegetables that improve eyesight, and drink more chrysanthemum tea, wolfberry tea, etc.

3. Work in an environment with sufficient and appropriate lighting, and be careful not to turn off the lights while playing with your mobile phone.

4. If you find any vision problems, go to the hospital for examination in time and wear relevant corrective lenses to prevent further deterioration of vision.
