The difference between menstruation and pregnancy

The difference between menstruation and pregnancy

During pregnancy, women stop having menstrual periods. Menstruation gradually resumes between three months and one year after delivery. Menstruation is an important part of female ovulation. The endometrium is shed, causing bleeding, which is what girls see as menstruation. During pregnancy, the egg and sperm combine, and ovulation no longer occurs, so there is no menstruation. Menstruation is a physiological behavior unique to girls. So, what are the differences between menstruation and pregnancy?

1. Will I still have menstruation during pregnancy?

Generally speaking, you will not have menstruation after you become pregnant. If you still have menstruation, you are not pregnant. However, many pregnant mothers have menstruation after they find out that they are pregnant. What is going on?

If you still have menstruation after pregnancy, and the amount of blood is heavy, it may be vaginal bleeding caused by miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, cervical erosion, etc. It is best to go to the hospital for examination in time to find out the cause.

A small amount of vaginal bleeding may occur after pregnancy, which may cause panic in some inexperienced pregnant mothers, who may think it is menstruation or that they are not actually pregnant.

Generally, you won't have your period after you get pregnant.

In fact, vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy is not true menstruation, it may also be due to problems with the cervix. However, very rare cases of menstruation during pregnancy can be understood as a physiological reaction after the fertilized egg implants.

2. What happens when you have menstruation after you get pregnant?

Menstruation after pregnancy is implantation bleeding that occurs after the fertilized egg implants. In early pregnancy, when the egg is fertilized and implanted, chorionic gonadotropin begins to appear in the urine and reaches its peak in the 8th week of pregnancy. This hormone has a similar effect to luteinizing hormone and can cause the corpus luteum of the ovary to develop into the corpus luteum of pregnancy. The corpus luteum of pregnancy continues to secrete estrogen and progesterone, causing the endometrium to become decidua, ensuring the continued development and growth of the fertilized egg.

If the human chorionic gonadotropin in the pregnant woman's body cannot transform the corpus luteum of the ovary into the corpus luteum of pregnancy, and the true decidua and the pericardium are not completely fused, a small part of the endometrium is still active and affected by ovarian hormones, bleeding that is less than the menstrual volume or even difficult to detect will occur every month. But after three months of pregnancy, the placenta mainly secretes sex hormones, replacing the function of the ovaries. At this time, the true decidua and the pericardium fuse, and menstruation will no longer occur.

Generally speaking, you will not have menstruation after pregnancy. Let me tell you why you still have menstruation after pregnancy. Due to individual differences and other reasons, some women's ovaries secrete relatively low levels of sex hormones, especially progesterone, after pregnancy, causing a small part of the endometrium to continue to shed. Therefore, these women will still have menstruation after pregnancy, but the amount of menstruation will be much less than normal. It is not until three months into pregnancy that the placenta is formed and begins to secrete sex hormones instead of the ovaries, maintaining a relatively high level of estrogen and progesterone in the female body. At this time, the endometrium no longer sheds and menstruation no longer occurs.
