Female type O hemolytic disease

Female type O hemolytic disease

Some babies will suffer from ABO hemolytic disease after they are born, which is related to the mother's blood type. Generally, when the mother has O-type blood, there is a chance of developing hemolytic disease. It actually depends on the situation, but it can usually be avoided. The following will give you some detailed health education knowledge about ABO hemolytic disease.

1. The probability of a pregnant woman having type O hemolytic disease

1. When the mother's blood type is O, the father's blood type is A, B or AB, and the fetus's blood type is A or B, the mother-daughter blood types do not match. For example, if the mother is type O blood and the child is type A blood, the mother's body has type O blood cells and her blood contains antigens that are against type "A" blood cells. Through the embryo, the mother's anti-"A" antigens enter the baby's body and react with the A antigens in the baby's type A blood cells, thus causing hemolysis.

2. Inconsistency in the blood types of mother and daughter does not necessarily lead to hemolytic disease. The incidence of ABO blood type inconsistency is about 20%, but the actual incidence of neonatal hemolytic disease is only less than 5%. From the perspective of another blood type classification, if the mother is RH negative, the father is RH positive, and the fetus is RHA positive, it is considered mother-daughter blood type incompatibility, but the probability of RH blood type incompatibility is lower.

2. How to prevent hemolytic disease

Hemolytic disease usually occurs in mothers who have had a threatened miscarriage in early pregnancy or who are pregnant with their second child. If a woman who has a history of unexplained fetal death, miscarriage, or severe neonatal jaundice plans to have a baby again, she and her husband should conduct an ABO blood type test in advance to test the body's anti-A and anti-B antigen status. This test is called an IgG antibody titer test.

The above is the relevant knowledge about ABO hemolytic disease. In fact, it can be prevented, especially when giving birth to a second child. Or if you have had threatened miscarriage, you must pay attention to it and must do regular maintenance. It is best to check it once a month. Generally, the probability of O-type blood is still higher.
