Recently, such a piece of news has attracted people's attention: Xiao Lin, a 26-year-old programmer, has been eating takeout for many years and loves to drink all kinds of sweet drinks. Once, after urinating outside his hometown, his urine was surrounded by ants of all sizes... After being admitted to the hospital for examination, Xiao Lin was diagnosed with diabetes. Looking at the reality, diabetes should indeed attract people's attention. The latest research data from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) in 2021 shows that there are 537 million adult diabetics worldwide, an increase of 74 million from 2019, an increase of 16%. The growth rate of the global diabetes prevalence is quite alarming! It is often said that diabetes is caused by eating too much sugar and that once you get the disease, it cannot be cured... Is this really the case? Let's take a look. Does diabetic patients have sweet urine? Yes. The original name of diabetes was based on the sweet taste of the urine of diabetic patients. The reason is that too much glucose in the patient's body is excreted from the kidneys in the urine. Is diabetes really caused by eating too much sugar? Of course not! There are many causes of diabetes, such as genetic factors, environmental factors, immune deficiency, drug effects, mental stimulation, childbirth, obesity, etc., and the love of sweets is just one of the unhealthy lifestyle factors among environmental factors. The following six risk groups need to be vigilant: Aged over 40 years old and with a history of prediabetes; People with abdominal obesity with big belly and thin legs (waist circumference ≥ 90cm for men and ≥ 85cm for women); Suffering from hypertension, hyperlipidemia or atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease; People who sit for long periods of time, have high work pressure, and take antidepressants for a long time; There is a fat kid in the family, and the mother had a history of diabetes when she was pregnant; Parents with type 2 diabetes, overweight or obese. With the development of social informatization and changes in dietary structure, young people are sedentary, have high work pressure and irregular life, and diabetes is gradually becoming younger. For high-risk groups, they should pay attention to controlling their diet, exercising scientifically, quitting smoking and limiting alcohol, managing their weight and relaxing. What are the early symptoms of diabetes? The "reserve army" of diabetes refers to people with prediabetes whose blood sugar is abnormal but has not yet reached the diagnostic criteria for diabetes, mainly including impaired fasting blood sugar (6.1mmol/L≤fasting blood sugar<7.0mmol/L, blood sugar 2 hours after meal<7.8mmol/L) and impaired glucose tolerance (fasting blood sugar<7.0mmol/L, 7.8mmol/L≤blood sugar 2 hours after meal<11.1mmol/L). More than half of them will develop diabetes within 6 years. Therefore, it is particularly important to detect the nine danger signals of the body as early as possible: Dry mouth, the sweeter the drink, the better; Always feel hungry, and feel anxious if you don’t eat; Recent frequent or excessive urination symptoms; I lost a lot of weight without deliberately losing weight; His limbs were thin, but his belly was growing bigger; The skin is always itchy and prone to boils; Darkening of the neck and armpits; Numbness in the feet and hands, blurry vision; I feel weak and have no energy. If you have the above symptoms, it is recommended that you go to a regular hospital for treatment as soon as possible, but please do not blindly follow your symptoms. What should I do if I have diabetes? Since the cause and pathogenesis of diabetes are not yet fully understood, diabetes cannot be cured at present, but it can be controlled. If you have diabetes, you need timely intervention, including dietary intervention, exercise intervention, drug treatment, self-blood sugar monitoring, and diabetes education. Diabetes can cause vascular complications such as blindness, myocardial infarction, proteinuria, as well as lower limb infections and foot ulcers. In severe cases, people even face the risk of amputation. For newly diagnosed, young patients with type 2 diabetes, it is recommended to adopt strict blood sugar control as early as possible. For patients with type 2 diabetes who have cardiovascular risk factors, it is recommended to adopt comprehensive management measures such as lowering blood sugar, lowering blood pressure, regulating lipids and using aspirin treatment to reduce the risk of diabetic vascular complications. How to prevent diabetes? 1. Knowledge prevention: Receive health education, learn about diabetes, and understand the basic prevention and treatment measures for chronic diseases. 2. Dietary prevention: Eat less oil, less salt, less sugar, and eat more whole grains and dairy products to prevent the formation of high-risk factors for diabetes such as obesity and hyperlipidemia. 3. Exercise prevention. Exercise can increase insulin sensitivity. It is recommended to do moderate exercise for more than half an hour at least 5 days a week, such as brisk walking, Tai Chi, cycling, table tennis, badminton, etc. 4. Psychological prevention: Maintain a healthy and optimistic attitude, avoid mental trauma and high mental pressure, and improve psychological stress resistance. 5. Drug prevention: When necessary, take antihypertensive, lipid-regulating, and antiplatelet drugs regularly under the guidance of a professional physician to reduce the risk of diabetes.
