I am a staff member engaged in AIDS prevention and control at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. During the course of my work, I have encountered many confirmed cases. Behind each confirmed case there is a story. I have selected two typical cases and one case that left a deep impression on me to discuss with you. I hope that all readers will pay attention to AIDS and prevent AIDS! Case 1: The Pain of an Ignorant Teenager One morning, the sun was shining brightly, and I went to work on time as usual. There were several consultants sitting in front of the office door as usual, but the difference was that there were two middle-aged men with a boy who was almost an adult. When I opened the office door, they followed me in. "Sit down, what's going on?" The middle-aged woman came towards me holding a report sheet: "The child went to the hospital for surgery due to an injury. A full set of tests were performed before the surgery, and the results were HIV positive. Later, it was confirmed. What should I do now?" I answered her: "Once the diagnosis is confirmed, the only thing left is to treat it well." “Can this disease be cured now?” "Currently, there is no medicine or method in the world that can cure AIDS. Once diagnosed, you can only take medicine for life." Before I finished my answer, the middle-aged lady knelt down in front of me and asked, "Can you help me think of a way to cure the child? We only have this one child, what should we do in the future?" I immediately helped her up and said, "Please sit down first." Then I poured her a glass of water to help her calm down. I asked her, “How was the child diagnosed?” She said: "The child's academic performance was not good, so we sent him to a technical school to let him learn a skill so that he could have a job in the future. However, the school is closed and has one holiday per month, so we couldn't supervise him closely. I don't know how he got into bad habits." "He likes boys?" "After the diagnosis, he told us who he had sex with. I don't know why he likes boys. Oh! We only have this one child. What should we do in the future? Doctor, can you help us think of a solution? We want to have another child." "According to the country's existing laws and regulations, you are not too old and you can definitely have another child." Case 2: Trouble caused by an indulgence "Hello! I am a staff member of the XX Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Your HIV diagnosis result is positive. You have been diagnosed with HIV. How long do you have time? Come to our unit and we will conduct a simple epidemiological investigation on you." "Then I'll come right away!" After a while, he came to the office. "Please take a seat. Your diagnosis is positive. We will perform some tests on you. Please cooperate with the medical staff, follow the doctor's instructions, and take your medication on time." "OK." “Before you were diagnosed, did you engage in any high-risk behaviors?” "I went out to look for a lady once." “Did you use a condom?” "No." “Why not?” "I was going to use it, but she told me she had no problem, so I believed her. Now I really regret it!" "Why are you looking for it?" "I was under a lot of work pressure and often suffered from insomnia, so I just wanted to go out and relax. I didn't expect to be infected that time. I really regret it." "Are you married?" "not yet." "Next, just take good care of yourself. As long as you take the medicine regularly, AIDS will basically not affect your life span. You must have regular checkups and follow the medical staff's instructions." "good!" Case 3: A tragedy that could have been avoided He was diagnosed with HIV sometime last year, and our staff told him that he had to inform his wife and have her come for a checkup, to which he replied yes. Later, when his wife came to apply for a health certificate, she underwent an initial HIV screening and the result was negative. We prescribed him HIV treatment drugs and repeatedly reminded him to take the drugs and check-ups on time, and to take protective measures during sexual intercourse. A month later, when the staff called him to come for a check-up, the staff's phone number was blocked. We went to his house to communicate, but he was not at home. In April this year, his wife came again to apply for a health certificate. We screened her for HIV again and the result was unfortunately positive. We then did a confirmatory test, which was also positive! Enlightenment from three cases Case 1 shows that it is very important to educate children, including sex education! With the rapid development of society and the development of the Internet, children may be exposed to much more knowledge than their parents, so it is necessary to communicate with children well, let them be responsible for their own bodies, understand what they can and cannot do, what the consequences are, and whether they can bear such consequences. Case 2 shows that we cannot indulge ourselves, not even once, and we should not have any fluke mentality. Some friends may have learned from some information that the probability of HIV transmission from women to men is not high, but if it happens to you, the probability is only 0 and 1, so when having sex with others, you must use condoms correctly, throughout the process, and every time. Case 3 is indeed regrettable. It could have been avoided, but it actually happened. If you are unfortunately infected with HIV, please inform your spouse or sexual partner and ask them to get checked for early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment. You must also follow the doctor's advice and actively treat it. When the viral load in the body is below the detection limit, AIDS is almost not transmitted through sexual contact, that is, "U=U". The "Law on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases" clearly stipulates that malicious spread of AIDS will be held legally responsible. At present, AIDS is no longer a terminal illness. As long as it is treated well, it will basically not affect the life span of the infected person. I hope everyone will pay attention to AIDS and prevent AIDS! |
