Why can't mussels be cooked?

Dead mussels cannot be cooked

Mussels are shellfish that close their shells by tightening their muscles, but after the mussels die, the muscles lose their contraction force, so the mussel shells cannot be boiled.

The water temperature is too high and the mussels cannot be cooked

If you cook clams after the water boils, it is easy for the water temperature to be too high, causing the protein in the clams to tighten quickly, resulting in the clams not opening their shells.

How to cook mussels

1. Use a brush to scrub the mussels clean and rinse off the mud and sand.

2. Cultivate for 1 to 2 hours to allow the mussels to expel food from their stomachs.

3. Then rinse it, put cold water directly into the pot and bring to a boil over high heat.

4. The mussels will slowly open during the boiling process.

Should mussels be put into the pot with cold or hot water?

Fresh mussels in cold water

Fresh mussels need to be put into the pot with cold water so that they can open. If they are put into the pot with hot water, the protein in the mussels will denature immediately and shrink into the shells, making the mussels unable to open.

There is no specific requirement for dried mussels

Dried clams can be put into the pot with either cold water or hot water, because dried clams themselves need to be cared for for a period of time, and cold water or hot water has little effect.
