Are there many dietary taboos during pregnancy? There are only 5 things you really can’t eat!

After pregnancy, the pregnant mother and the baby in the belly become the "key protected animals" of the whole family. Of course, their diet also has to be heavily "protected". They can't eat this or that. Many pregnant mothers have to stay away from their favorite foods.

But in fact, pregnant women need to consume more abundant and comprehensive nutrients, so as long as their diet is diversified, there is no need to restrict them.

However, although we can ignore those strange dietary taboos, the following five kinds of food can indeed easily bring health risks to the fetus, and pregnant mothers must try to avoid them.

1. Foods containing alcohol

Alcohol is a food that pregnant women must avoid. Whether it is beer or red wine with a relatively low alcohol content, or drinks containing alcohol, or even some snacks such as chocolate with alcohol filling, it is not recommended for pregnant mothers to consume it.

Because alcohol molecules are small, they can easily pass through the placental barrier and enter the fetus' body, easily affecting the baby's nervous system, liver and other organs, causing sleep disorders and affecting neurological development.

2. Unprocessed fish, shrimp, and meat

Many people like the delicious taste of pickled crabs and the plump meat of sashimi. However, there are parasites in the bodies of seafood and river food such as fish, shrimp, and shellfish. Every year, there are countless cases of parasite infection due to eating sashimi, drunken shrimp, oysters, and raw snail meat. Raw beef, sausages, ham and other meat products must be heated until they are thoroughly cooked before eating. Pregnant mothers are in a special stage and should pay more attention.

3. Wild fish, shrimp and other freshwater and seafood

Many people believe that wild fish and shrimp have higher nutritional value and taste better. However, we do not know the conditions of the waters where wild fish and shrimp live, whether there is heavy metal pollution, and compared with farmed fish and shrimp, wild fish and shrimp may have more parasites. Therefore, pregnant mothers should avoid eating these wild fish and shrimp of unknown origin. Even deep-sea fish, such as tuna, shark, swordfish, whale and other fish will be enriched with heavy metal mercury, so pregnant mothers should also be careful when eating these fish.

4. Grilled, smoked, and fried foods

Pregnant mothers are also not recommended to eat grilled, smoked and fried foods, because these foods cooked at high temperatures are very likely to produce carcinogens such as benzopyrene, heterocyclic amines and acrylamide, which are very dangerous to the development of the fetus.

In addition, pregnant mothers should try to stay away from street barbecue stalls. On the one hand, the freshness of the food on the stalls cannot be guaranteed. On the other hand, sometimes in order to ensure the taste is fresh and tender, the food on the barbecue stalls cannot be fully cooked, and parasites and pathogens cannot be guaranteed to be completely killed.

5. Naturally Toxic Foods

Some foods are naturally toxin-containing, such as poisonous mushrooms that can make you see little people dancing after eating them, so pregnant mothers should never rashly eat foods they don’t recognize.

In addition, in our daily lives, many common foods are poisonous if not stored or cooked properly. For example, fresh day lily, bitter almonds, ginkgo nuts, sprouted potatoes, etc. contain certain toxins. Soy milk that is not thoroughly boiled and beans that are not heated thoroughly can also cause food poisoning, so pregnant mothers must pay more attention to their daily diet.

In addition to the above 5 types of food, pregnant mothers can basically eat other natural foods that are commonly eaten in daily life. However, puffed foods such as various potato chips and French fries sold in supermarkets, various desserts, and highly processed foods such as sweet drinks and sweet milk tea are typical high-energy and low-nutrition value foods. This type of food has a very strong "fattening" ability, which is very unfavorable for pregnant mothers to control their weight, and is more likely to cause gestational diabetes. Therefore, pregnant mothers should also try these highly processed foods lightly and avoid them if possible.
