#Does eating sweets often lead to diabetes#? Not necessarily! There is no absolute causal relationship between diabetes and eating sweets, that is, even if you eat sweets every day, you may not necessarily get diabetes. However, people who eat sweets regularly may experience the following changes: 1. Getting fat Sweets generally have high calories. For example, a small dessert cake like the one in Figure 1 below has a calorie content of 375 kcal/100 grams. ▲Photo: A certain brand of dessert cake There is also Napoleon, which is crispy and sweet and is loved by many people. Its calorie content is as high as 532 kcal/100 g (see Figure 2 below). Eating 100 g of it is equivalent to the calories of a whole meal. ▲Photo: Napoleon of a certain brand Eating sweets frequently will inevitably lead to increased calorie intake and increase the risk of obesity, which in turn increases the risk of chronic diseases, including diabetes. 2. Tooth decay These are what we usually call "cavities" and "tooth decay". Don't underestimate caries. A long history of tooth decay will develop into pulpitis, and then you won't be able to smile anymore... Besides, toothache is really terrible... 3. Acne Some studies have shown that high GI foods may be associated with acne. [1, 2] In other words, eating too much sweets will indeed make you more likely to get acne! To lower GI, in addition to eating less sugar, you must also pay attention to the diversity of food at each meal (staple food, vegetables, protein) to delay post-meal blood sugar. 4. Getting older Eating too much sweets will accelerate the aging process of the skin. The carboxyl group of glucose can react with the amino group of DNA, fat, and protein through a series of reactions to generate advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which can glycate collagen and elastin, accelerating skin aging. Therefore, if you want to stay young and beautiful, you must also pay attention to eating less sugar! Don’t just think about preventing diabetes. Even if you want to have a good figure, no toothache, and look young and beautiful, you should also pay attention to eating less sugar~ References: [1] Smith RN Mann NJ Braue A. Makelainen H.
