After cataract surgery, vision improves, but eyes feel "uncomfortable"? Do you have these feelings after surgery?

Cataract surgery completed

Why does vision improve?

But I still feel uncomfortable in my eyes

I often feel my eyes are "irritated"

There are even "mosquitoes" flying around

At this time, some people were worried

Is it because the operation was unsuccessful?

What is going on?

Do you experience these discomforts after cataract surgery?

1. Foreign body sensation

After cataract surgery, some people may feel something in their eyes, dryness, and other discomforts, which is normal. This is mainly because the surgical incision cuts off part of the sensory nerve fibers of the cornea, which can aggravate dry eye syndrome. The incision has not yet healed completely, and the irritation of postoperative eye drops will make the symptoms more obvious.

Generally, after the wound heals and the eye drops are stopped, the discomfort will disappear after a period of time. During this period, follow the doctor's advice to take medication and use eye drops to promote wound healing. Some patients will see improvement in this symptom about half a year after the operation.

Now, with the emergence of femtosecond laser technology, cataract surgery has made a qualitative leap, reducing surgical damage to eye tissues, reducing postoperative complications, improving the safety and accuracy of surgery, and facilitating postoperative vision recovery.

2. Something is floating in front of your eyes

Some patients always feel that there are black shadows floating in front of their eyes after cataract surgery, which indicates that the patients have vitreous opacity. The reason why patients did not feel it before the surgery is that the lens was cloudy before the surgery, and they could not see clearly, so they naturally could not feel anything floating. After the surgery, the artificial lens was replaced, and the vision became clear, and they could clearly feel the floating of the black shadow in front of their eyes.

If you have this symptom, you should go to the hospital for a fundus examination to rule out fundus diseases. If you feel a motionless black shadow in front of your eyes, you should be highly alert, indicating that you may have fundus hemorrhage, optic nerve ischemia or retinal detachment, etc. You should seek medical attention in time. If it does not affect your life, regular follow-up is sufficient. If the interference is obvious, vitreous laser treatment can be performed.

3. Decreased vision

Some people have very clear vision after cataract surgery. But after a while, they feel that their vision is getting blurrier. Is it because they have cataracts again? In fact, there is no need to worry too much. The most common case is secondary cataract. Most patients only need to undergo laser treatment in the outpatient clinic to restore their vision.

After-cataract is a condition after cataract surgery. This is mainly due to the regeneration of residual lens epithelial cells after surgery, and even proliferation to the central area, forming a translucent membrane in the pupil area, which will block the line of sight again and affect vision. It is usually treated with YAG laser posterior capsulotomy, which does not require anesthesia and is painless. Vision can be restored about half a day after laser treatment.

Experts from the Aier Eye Hospital affiliated to Wuhan University recommend: During the recovery period after cataract surgery, you should eat a balanced diet, eat more fruits and vegetables, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and use eye drops on time. Wear glasses when going out to prevent foreign objects from entering the eyes. Avoid using your eyes for a long time to prevent eye fatigue. Go to the hospital for a follow-up examination according to the doctor's advice. If you experience sudden changes in vision, redness, pain, etc., you should seek medical attention immediately.
