But if your whitening product works particularly quickly, you should be careful, as it is likely a fake whitening product with extra mercury added.

Merchants add mercury to their products because mercury can enter the body through the skin's epidermis, sweat glands and other skin appendages, replace the copper ions in tyrosinase, and inactivate tyrosinase activity in melanocytes, thereby preventing melanin from forming, achieving a rapid and very significant whitening effect.

Judging from the list of unqualified products released after official inspections, the names of some cosmetics with excessive mercury often emphasize effects such as "special effect freckle removal", "special beauty", and "freckle removal in 20 days".

Although the national standard requires that mercury content is ≤ 1mg/kg, this amount is not enough to really have a whitening effect.
