Can I have a gynecological examination if my period is not over?

Can I have a gynecological examination before my menstrual period ends? Is it advisable for women to have a gynecological examination during their menstrual period? There are many gynecological examinations that women need to do, and each one is for the body. Among these tests, many cannot be done casually. They need to wait until a certain period of the human body, and some have some special requirements before the test.

Women who are in their menstrual period are not suitable for gynecological examinations

Gynecological diseases cannot be treated without vaginal examination, and women who are in their menstrual period have relatively weak systemic and partial resistance. In addition, the uterine wall peels off and bleeds, causing wounds, and the cervix stretches, all of which open the door for the invasion of microorganisms. Therefore, in order to avoid nosocomial infection, doctors usually try to avoid vaginal examinations during menstruation.

For symptoms such as dysmenorrhea, most of them should only be temporarily treated with symptomatic treatment. Generally, you should wait for 3 days after the menstrual period ends before rechecking and re-examining the vagina. Of course, this is not the case for all vaginal bleeding. In fact, when doctors examine patients with non-menstrual vaginal bleeding, if the patient has heavy bleeding, or has a little bleeding but it is continuous, or has bleeding after menopause, etc., it is still necessary to perform a vaginal examination to minimize misdiagnosis or wrong diagnosis, but disinfection should be more stringent.

Middle-aged women with postmenopausal bleeding have a higher incidence of malignant tumors. Vaginal examination during bleeding can immediately identify the source of bleeding. If the bleeding originates from the uterine cavity, a diagnostic curettage is required to diagnose endometrial cancer or other malignancies.

Many minimally invasive gynecological surgeries are required to be performed within 7 days after the menstrual period ends, such as IUD insertion and removal surgery. If intrauterine operation is performed too early, the wound on the uterine wall has not started to repair yet because the menstruation has just ended, and there may still be residual blood in the uterine cavity, which can easily cause bacterial infection or stress bleeding. If it is too late, due to the proliferation and hypertrophy of the endometrium, it is easy to cause excessive and prolonged vaginal bleeding after the operation, and even interfere with the menstruation of the next cycle. Some special routine examinations and treatments, such as fallopian tube hydrotubation test, intrauterine injection, cervical surgery, oophorectomy, etc., are also required to be carried out within this time.

Women must pay great attention to their physical condition and develop the habit of regular physical examinations. The data on some medical reports are relatively complicated and contain a lot of professional vocabulary. You don’t need to understand them all. If you don’t understand something, you should ask the doctor to explain it. If there is a positive result, the physical examination report will state a positive result, and those who undergo routine physical examinations are advised to undergo further testing.
