What is the flower language of freesia?

The flower language of freesia is purity.

Freesia belongs to the Iridaceae family. It is a perennial bulbous herb with narrow ovate or ovate bulbs, sword-shaped or strip-shaped leaves, erect pedicels, upright sessile flowers, light yellow or yellow-green in color, and fragrant. Bracts are broadly ovate or ovate, the perianth tube is trumpet-shaped, the perianth lobes are ovate or elliptical, and the capsule is nearly ovate. It blooms from April to May, and bears fruit from June to September. The main varieties include the lavender "Blue Sister", the bright yellow "Cream Cup", the red "Quick Red", the white "Beautiful" and the orange "Spring Day". It is native to southern Africa and is named freesia because its flowers are pure white like snow and its fragrance is faint like orchid. It is mainly for viewing, and the flowers can be used to extract fragrant liquid. Freesia flowers are like lilies, and leaves are like orchids. The anthocyanins are simple and elegant, exquisite and delicate, with a strong fragrance and a long flowering period. It is a favorite winter flower.

How to grow freesia

1. Selection of potting soil. Freesia has high requirements for soil. It grows best in sandy soil with strong drainage, looseness, fertility and rich humus. When potting, you can choose a mixture of leaf mold, garden soil, fine sand and decomposed organic fertilizer. Use a drug to disinfect it once before planting. It is best to use a shallow pot when planting, because the roots of freesia are bulbs, which are different from other flowers and plants. Too deep a pot is not conducive to management, while a shallow pot can ensure that it has enough growth space.

2. Light and temperature environment. Freesia has relatively high requirements for temperature. Growing in a suitable temperature is the basis for its flowering. The optimum temperature for growth is 10-20 degrees. At night, it is between 10-15 degrees. Maintaining a suitable temperature difference is extremely beneficial to its growth. In winter, the temperature should be avoided below 3 degrees. Freesia is a light-loving plant, so it should be kept in sufficient light during the seedling stage, growth period and flowering period. However, it must be avoided from strong sunlight exposure in March and April, because the temperature will be too high if it is placed in the sun. Once it exceeds 25 degrees, its growth will slow down. Therefore, it is very unfavorable for growth when the light is too strong.

3. Watering and fertilizing. When potting freesia, you can add some base fertilizer to the bottom of the pot. Do not fertilize too much in the seedling stage. You can apply topdressing once a month during the vigorous growth period. It is recommended to apply decomposed bean cake fertilizer. You can also spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate during the flowering period, which can promote the germination of flower buds and make the flowers more colorful. How to water freesia is a science. Generally, you can water it once a week for daily maintenance. If the soil dries out quickly, you need to shorten the watering time. In the vigorous growth period, you need to water it every 3-5 days.

How to water freesia

1. After potting, water thoroughly. After the water seeps into the soil, cover with 2 to 3 cm of soil and place in a cool place.

2. Seedlings will begin to emerge after half a month, then move the flowerpot to the sun.

3. Before frost, move the flower pot indoors, ensure sufficient sunlight, control the room temperature between 10 and 18 degrees Celsius, keep the potting soil moist, and apply diluted bean cake water once every half a month.

4. Freesia is relatively resistant to fertilizer. If the fertilizer and water are appropriate, the flowers will be large and fragrant. Therefore, fertilizer and water management should be strengthened during the growing season.

5. When entering the flowering period, you should control watering appropriately and stop fertilizing to prolong the flowering period. Water less after flowering. From May to June of the following year, when the leaves wither and turn yellow, stop watering to facilitate the maturity of the bulbs.
