Three natural births after two caesarean sections

Three natural births after two caesarean sections

Whether natural birth or caesarean section is better is a question that expectant mothers are more worried about during pregnancy. Experts say that under normal circumstances, it is definitely better to choose a natural birth than a caesarean section. However, cesarean section can indeed save the lives of mothers and babies in some emergency situations, so whether to choose cesarean section or natural birth should depend on the situation. So, after two caesarean sections, is it okay to choose natural birth for the third child?

1. After two caesarean sections, can I choose to have a third child naturally?

Generally, for pregnant women who have a cesarean section, if they had a cesarean section for the first baby, they must also have a cesarean section for the second baby, because there is a noticeable postoperative scar left on the abdomen. The tissue of this scar has no ability to contract. If you want to choose a natural birth, the contraction of the uterus will easily lead to uterine rupture, which will cause serious adverse reactions. If you want to choose a natural birth for the third baby, the risk is very high and you will have to have a cesarean section. Generally, a cesarean section can be performed up to three times, but medically it is still recommended that two cesarean sections are the safest. During this period of pregnancy, you must do a good prenatal checkup.

It is best to wait one year before getting pregnant again after a cesarean section. The wound of the endometrium after cesarean section will not heal well in the short term. If pregnancy is premature, the growth of the fetus will cause the uterus to continue to expand and the endometrium to soften, especially the connective tissue at the exit of the forceps lacks elasticity. Fresh scars are easy to rupture in the late pregnancy or during delivery, causing intra-abdominal bleeding and even life-threatening.

Therefore, it is better to wait 2 years after surgery to give the uterus a longer healing time before getting pregnant again, which will be safer.

2. Which is more painful, natural birth or caesarean section?

The pain of childbirth can be divided into the following stages:

1. Cervical dilation period. This is also a key link in choosing the pain of natural childbirth. This stage lasts about 8-10 hours. The normal cervix is a tubular structure and is closed. During the first stage of labor, it must be fully opened, that is, to ten fingers, to accommodate the fetal head. We know that the human body's internal organs are very sensitive to expansion and contraction, so it takes a long time for the cervix to go from a closed state to a fully open state.

2. The baby is delivered. This step takes about 1-2 hours. Compared with cervical dilation, although the delivery of the fetus is also painful, it is fast and mainly requires force, so it is better than the first stage of labor.

3. The embryo is delivered. This process is generally smooth, and the delivery of the embryo will not cause internal bleeding. Therefore, in serious cases, doctors will perform placental extraction, also known as artificial placental removal.

In general, from the perspective of pain, natural birth is much more painful than cesarean section; but in the long run, natural birth has many more benefits for expectant mothers than cesarean section, so it is recommended that expectant mothers choose natural birth.
