Why does lettuce have soft rot? What are the hazards of lettuce soft rot?

Lettuce is actually a general term for vegetables, including lettuce, romaine lettuce, and iceberg lettuce. Lettuce is very nutritious and is currently cultivated in most parts of my country. However, when cultivating lettuce, diseases are becoming more and more serious, among which lettuce soft rot is a common disease.

Why does lettuce have soft rot?

Lettuce soft rot is a bacterial disease that overwinters on field residues. The pathogen is spread through rainwater, irrigation water, fertilizers, insects, etc. The pathogen easily penetrates through wounds, such as mechanical wounds and insect wounds. Under suitable conditions, the disease will occur quickly.

This pathogen will multiply at 4-40℃, and the most suitable temperature for the disease is 25-32℃. The disease is more serious under high temperature and high humidity conditions, and the disease spreads quickly. When growing lettuce in a greenhouse, high temperature can easily cause the disease, and flooding can lead to serious disease. At the same time, serious insect pests in the greenhouse or fertilizer damage caused by improper fertilization can also cause the disease.

What are the hazards of lettuce soft rot?

Lettuce soft rot mainly harms the fleshy stems, and the roots and leaves can also become infected. When the fleshy stems are infected, irregular water-soaked spots will appear in the early stage of the disease. As the disease progresses, the fleshy stems will quickly become soft and rotten.

The leaves are infected, usually starting from the leaf margins, initially appearing water-soaked, then slowly turning brown and soft, leading to leaf rot. Under dry conditions, the rotten leaves lose water and become paper-thin. When the humidity is high, the entire leaf and even the entire leaf head will rot.
