Why is the platelet count low? What are the symptoms of low platelet count?

As we all know, platelets are small pieces of cytoplasm that fall off from the cytoplasm of mature megakaryocytes in the bone marrow. Once they deviate from the normal value, pathological changes will occur, and platelet deviation is one of the most common pathological changes. So why are platelets low? What are the symptoms of low platelets? Let's take a look together.

Why is platelet count low?

Platelets are the blood cells responsible for hemostasis in the human body, and their normal range is (100~300)×10^9/L. Common causes include diseases with platelet production disorders, such as aplastic anemia, acute leukemia, megaloblastic anemia, and advanced myelofibrosis; thrombocytopenia can also be seen in increased platelet destruction and consumption, such as immune thrombocytopenic purpura, systemic lupus erythematosus, and malignant lymphoma.

What are the symptoms of low platelets?

Different degrees of thrombocytopenia have different consequences. If it is a mild decrease, there will be no serious consequences. If the platelet count is lower than 50×10^9/L, it may cause bleeding. Especially after trauma, it will be more difficult to stop bleeding. If the platelet count is lower than 30×10^9/L, spontaneous bleeding may occur, manifested as bleeding spots, ecchymoses, nasal and gingival bleeding on the skin and mucous membranes. In severe cases, it may cause intracranial hemorrhage and endanger the patient's life.

Can low platelets be cured?

This depends on each person's condition. Many patients with thrombocytopenia have to rely on drugs to maintain the stability of platelets. It is recommended to use a combination of Chinese and Western medicine to cure thrombocytopenia fundamentally and completely get rid of drug maintenance. It is more appropriate to rely on diet to restore platelets, because medication can only maintain it for a short time, and one's own lifestyle habits are a long-term treatment. It is recommended to eat more black fungus donkey-hide gelatin porridge, white imperata root red date porridge, and peanut yam porridge.
