Why can't you give water to rabbits?

Generally speaking, meat rabbits, lop-eared rabbits, cat rabbits, lion rabbits and other breeds have a good appetite, eat more and drink more. Dwarf rabbits may have a relatively small appetite and drink less water every day. This is determined by physiological conditions and you don't have to worry too much about it.

If you want to add fresh food such as vegetables and fruits, you must first ensure that the food is clean and dry, and avoid feeding it directly to the rabbit after rinsing it with tap water. Especially for little rabbits, their stomachs are too weak and they are prone to diarrhea and illness.

Just like humans, if we eat more water-rich foods, we will naturally drink less water. But the key is that extra water is essential.

Why can't there be water on the grass fed to rabbits?

This is mainly because rabbits have weak stomachs and intestines. If they drink unclean water, they are prone to diarrhea and coccidiosis.

Rabbits are prone to digestive diseases, and diarrhea is usually fatal to them. If you accidentally feed your rabbit too much water or eat high-water fruits, the intestines will not be able to absorb it, and the stomach and intestines will be overloaded, causing continuous diarrhea and death.

Especially for newborn rabbits, they don't know hunger, and they will eat desperately if they have good food, which also overloads the stomach. So when feeding the rabbit, you should touch the rabbit's belly. If it is very round, stop feeding immediately.

The main causes of diarrhea are insufficient fiber feed, cold stimulation of the abdominal wall, poor diet and sudden changes in feed.

What grass can rabbits eat?

The right food would be pasture grass, such as the commonly used timothy grass hay. Then, for spring or breeding season or for young rabbits, add alfalfa hay, which is a legume with higher plant protein and more energy.

Since the pasture is dry, you can mix some green feed every day, such as a variety of vegetables. Note that the daily amount of vegetables should be very small, just a few leaves will do.
