How does carbon deposit on the throttle valve occur? What effect does carbon deposit on the throttle valve have on the car?

The throttle controls the amount of air that enters and the amount of gas that mixes with gasoline, and is known as the throat of the engine. The throttle is also a place where carbon deposits are easily generated. So how are carbon deposits generated here? Will there be any impact?

How does carbon deposit on the throttle valve occur?

The engine is the heart of the car. The gasoline from the fuel tank is sprayed through the fuel injector, mixed with the air in the engine combustion chamber, ignited by the spark plug, and performs work. However, part of the gas discharged from the engine combustion chamber actually passes through a T-shaped throttle valve, mixes with the fresh air from the natural intake pipe, and then enters the engine's air intake. This is done to increase the temperature of the intake gas.

The carbon deposits in the throttle of a car come from the gas discharged from the engine combustion chamber, which is what we often call crankcase exhaust gas, which contains oil vapor, water vapor, and other exhaust gases. These exhaust gases will condense in the throttle with a lower temperature to form oily substances. Some dust that cannot be filtered by the air filter will adhere to the oily substances and form oil stains. Part of these oil stains will enter the combustion chamber and form carbon deposits due to high temperature cracking, and those attached to the throttle will become throttle carbon deposits.

What is the impact of carbon deposits on the throttle valve?

The throttle valve will definitely get dirty during the use of the car, but some slight dirt on the throttle valve will not affect the driving of our car and the normal operation of the engine. When the throttle valve becomes seriously dirty, it will affect the sensitivity of the throttle valve and cause some problems such as unstable idling speed.

Because when our throttle valve is too dirty, it will block part of the gap at the throttle valve, so when we step on the accelerator, we control the throttle valve to open a little, and the actual opening will be blocked by the dirty part, resulting in inaccurate air intake.

At this time, we need to choose to clean the throttle valve.

After cleaning the throttle valve, we need to re-match the throttle valve parameters. This will make the throttle response speed much more sensitive and the engine idle speed will be smoother when it is cold.

Therefore, if the throttle valve becomes seriously dirty, it will definitely have some impact on the engine idle speed. After cleaning the throttle valve and matching it directly, it will return to normal.

How to clean the throttle valve

There are many types of throttle bodies, so it is generally recommended to go to a professional auto repair shop and find a professional technician to clean them.

When cleaning the throttle valve, please note:

First, you need to use a special throttle valve cleaning agent to clean it, mainly to protect the parts, as carburetor cleaning is a bit corrosive;

Second, if the carbon deposits are not that serious, do not disassemble and clean the car, especially when the new car has just entered the maintenance period. It is mainly unnecessary. Frequent disassembly and assembly is not good for the parts. Moreover, some models cannot be disassembled.

Third, if the car is old and the throttle has never been cleaned, the risk of cleaning it is relatively high, because it is very likely that the throttle body has already undergone irreversible wear. After cleaning, it may cause unstable idle speed and increased fuel consumption, and finally the only option is to replace the parts.

Fourth, there is the issue of matching. Many electronic throttles require computer matching. If it is a commonly used car model, there is generally no big problem. These repair shops will be more clear about it.
