Is it normal to have recurrent lochia during confinement?

Everyone knows that pregnancy is very hard for expectant mothers. In fact, for women, confinement is much more difficult than pregnancy. Because women may experience lochia after giving birth. Generally, after expectant mothers experience lochia for a period of time, it will gradually subside. However, due to different physical conditions, the conditions of some mothers are more complicated and lochia may recur. So is this normal?

If lochia recurs during the confinement period, you should be especially careful if it is bloody lochia. You should see a doctor for a check-up in time and be alert to the possibility of gynecological inflammation. If it is serous lochia, you should not worry. It will usually take more than 20 days for it to gradually decrease and disappear. It is generally normal. It is recommended to go to the hospital for examination 42 days after delivery. In fact, there are four reasons that may cause recurrence of lochia after childbirth.

1. Tissue residues. It may be due to uterine malformation, uterine fibroids, etc., or it may be due to the unskilled operation operator, resulting in incomplete removal of the pregnancy tissue, causing some tissue to remain in the uterine cavity. At this time, in addition to the unclean lochia, the amount of bleeding varies, with blood clots inside, and is accompanied by intermittent abdominal pain.

2. Uterine cavity infection. Uterine infection may be caused by taking a tub bath after delivery, using unclean sanitary napkins, having sexual intercourse before a full month after delivery, or by the operator's failure to provide strict disinfection. At this time, the lochia has a foul odor, there is tenderness in the abdomen, and it is accompanied by fever. A blood test shows an increase in the total white blood cell count.

3. Weak uterine contractions. It may be due to failure to get a good rest after delivery, or due to poor health or prolonged delivery, which consumes Qi and blood, resulting in weak uterine contractions, continuous lochia, and repeated lochia.

4. Take tonic too early. If the mother eats sesame oil chicken too early (such as in the first or second week), it will make it difficult to discharge lochia, and even cause delayed postpartum hemorrhage. This will easily cause blood clots to accumulate in the uterus, and there may even be the possibility of endometritis and sepsis.

Therefore, observe whether your lochia is normal, especially pay attention to the changes in the quality and quantity, color and smell of the lochia, which can help you estimate how fast the uterus recovers and whether there are any abnormalities.
