When should the car engine belt be replaced? If the car engine belt is broken, can it still drive?

Because of the engine belt, the engine is almost silent when it is running. However, there will be a certain amount of friction loss every time the belt is used, so the belt must be replaced regularly, otherwise it will affect driving.

When should the car engine belt be replaced?

Generally speaking, the engine belt refers to the engine's accessory belt! It is different from the timing belt!

The recommended mileage for replacing a car belt is 60,000 kilometers, and the original car belt can be replaced at 80,000 kilometers!

As long as the car engine is running, the accessory belt will continue to wear. The power of the generator, compressor, power steering pump, water pump and other equipment is driven by it!

Since many accessory devices are driven by belts, the importance of accessory belts can be imagined. You can't wait until the accessory belt is broken before replacing it. You should check it in time and replace it in advance! The normal inspection mileage is 30,000 kilometers.

The recommended replacement mileage for the timing belt of a car engine is 80,000 kilometers, and the longest mileage cannot exceed 100,000 kilometers. The timing belt plays a vital role in the intake and exhaust time, valve closing and opening. Once the timing belt is broken, the camshaft cannot operate correctly, and the engine will have serious malfunctions.

If the engine belt of the car breaks, can it still run?

The belts on the engine include timing belts and main engine belts. If these two belts break while driving, different consequences will occur.

Host belt

The main engine belt drives the generator, water pump, power steering pump, air-conditioning compressor and other auto parts that help our car run better.

After the main engine belt breaks:

1. If the generator fails, it will not provide power to charge our car battery. When our battery power is consumed, the engine will shut down and cannot be started;

2. The compressor has no belt drive, which will cause the air conditioning refrigeration to fail;

3. If the water pump is driven by the main engine belt, the engine cooling system will not be able to circulate, causing the engine temperature to be too high and unable to run normally.

Therefore, when our main engine belt breaks, all systems driven by the main engine belt will be paralyzed, the instrument will immediately light up the fault lights of each system, and the car will not be able to run normally for a certain period of time.

Timing belt

The timing belt is the belt that drives our valve system synchronously. If the timing belt is aged and broken, our valve system will not work and the engine will immediately shut down. If the break occurs on a long downhill highway, the consequences are still somewhat serious because the brake system will immediately fail! Almost as long as the belt on the engine breaks, it will basically cause the car to be unable to continue driving. Some vehicles with multiple belt designs will be different.

Therefore, if your car stalls, you must use the brakes with caution, because the vacuum remaining after the engine is turned off is only enough for you to step on the brakes three times. Never step on it once and then let go, and then step on it again!

Does the engine belt tensioner have a warranty at a 4S shop?

First, check how long the car has been bought and how many miles it has run, and then check the warranty booklet for the time range and mileage of the belt and tightening pulley warranty.

The warranty scope of each vehicle component is different. Don't just see that the engine warranty is 3 years and 300,000 kilometers, and think that other parts are also within this scope. Just like the fragile light bulbs, the wipers are only warrantied for one week or half a month. The generator and compressor are generally two years. Of course, the types of cars are different, and the three guarantees are also different, but they are almost the same.
