If it is huddled in its shell, you need to smell it with your nose. If there is no strange smell, it is a conch or a newly dead conch, and newly dead conches can also be eaten. If the conch secretes purple mucus in the basin, it means that the conch is either dead or not fresh. You can also smell it to see if there is any fishy smell.

How to choose male and female conch

The edge of the male conch mouth is very smooth. The edge of the female conch mouth has some brown vertical stripes, and the edge of the conch mouth is also bumpy. In terms of meat quality, the female is tastier than the male, and the key is that there is yellow inside.

In terms of appearance, you should also choose those with a smooth shell surface, which is fresher, more appetizing, and has fuller meat. The meaty conch is more plump, and you can see whether the shell of the conch can cover the meat. The one with a loose cover is naturally plump.
