What is the appropriate displacement for a car? What is the difference between L and T for a small car?

Many car owners pay special attention to the displacement when buying a car, such as 1.5T, 1.5L, 2.0T, etc. Cars with different displacements are naturally different, and the two letters representing the displacement also indicate different engines. So what are the specific differences?

How much displacement is suitable when buying a car?

If you like the smoothness and linearity of a naturally aspirated engine and don't have a big demand for power, it is recommended that you choose an engine with a displacement of 2.0-2.5. In this displacement range, the fuel consumption is moderate and the power is sufficient.

If you can accept the disadvantages of turbocharging and have requirements for power, it is recommended to choose a 1.5-2.0 displacement. Three-cylinder turbo engines below 1.5t are strongly not recommended. Although the balance shaft technology has made great progress, the smoothness and stability of the three-cylinder engine can be guaranteed during normal operation, but the vibration of the three-cylinder engine is still quite obvious during load conditions such as engine starting and acceleration! By the way, turbocharged engines have relatively high daily maintenance requirements for engine oil, air filter, oil filter battery, etc.

What is the difference between the l and t of a car?

The displacement plus T is turbocharged, and L is ordinary naturally aspirated.

Most of the cars with T displacement are joint ventures and imported cars, all of which belong to high-end brands. T is actually based on L with turbocharging, that is, the increase in instantaneous speed is much higher than that of L with the same displacement.

Naturally aspirated engines are more stable than turbocharged engines and have more linear power than turbocharged vehicles because naturally aspirated engines have more stable output. Cars like Rolls-Royce have large-displacement naturally aspirated engines, and only the models participating in the competition are turbocharged.

To put it simply, a turbocharged engine is a naturally aspirated engine with a turbocharger added to it to increase the engine's output power and torque. Although a turbocharged engine is more fuel efficient, emissions of carbon monoxide, carbon, hydrogen and particulates will decrease, but the engine life is shorter than an engine with the same emissions that has not been turbocharged.

Is it better to buy a car with large or small displacement?

Without considering fuel consumption, a large-displacement engine is of course more suitable. Unfortunately, considering factors such as the domestic usage environment and displacement tax, large-displacement naturally aspirated engines are still quite far away from us in China.

The displacement of a mini car is less than or equal to 1.0L; the displacement of an ordinary car is between 1.0 and 1.6L; the displacement of a mid-size car is between 1.6 and 2.5L; the displacement of a mid-to-high-end car is between 2.5 and 4.0L; and the displacement of a high-end car is greater than 4.0L.

A car with a slightly larger displacement and more power reserve will have less wear and tear on the car. For example, a small-displacement engine may need to reach 3,000 revolutions at 120 km/h, while a large-displacement engine only needs 1,900 revolutions at 120 km. From this perspective, low speed is obviously more conducive to reducing engine wear, engine operating noise, and engine vibration, thereby improving the overall driving quality of the car.
