How to pick daylily

(1) Picking daylilies should be picked in time every day, with those that mature early picked first and those that mature late picked later. If picked too early, the buds will not fully expand and the yield will be low; if picked too late, the buds will not open or swell, which will also affect the yield and quality. Mature daylily buds are yellow-green, plump, with obvious longitudinal grooves on the petals, and are about to bloom.

(2) The daylilies to be processed into dried products should be steamed immediately after being picked. The harvested daylilies should be neatly placed in the steaming sieve for steaming, and the height of the flowers should not exceed 5 cm. The appropriate standard for steaming: the color changes from yellow-green to light green, and the flower buds are gently rubbed with the thumb and index finger to make a sound. Generally, steam at high temperature for 5-8 minutes. The purpose of steaming is to quickly kill the activity of the cells inside the flower buds, making it easier to dry.

Never eat it raw, fresh daylily is poisonous, it must be dried.

How to clean daylily

Fresh daylily contains colchicine, which, after entering the human body, produces toxic substances through oxidation. After eating, it causes dry throat, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, etc.

The correct way to handle it is to soak the day lily in clean water for 2 hours, take it out, rinse it, fry it and cook it thoroughly before eating. Dried day lily is non-toxic because the colchicine is removed by soaking it in water during processing.

Generally, it is only necessary to soak day lily in warm water for about ten minutes. Day lily will not lose nutrients due to soaking. Eating day lily regularly is very beneficial to the body. Day lily has brain-enhancing and anti-aging effects, and is rich in lecithin. This substance is a component of many cells in the body, especially brain cells, and is very beneficial for enhancing and improving brain function.

How to grow daylily

(1) Site selection: Daylily likes warmth and is highly adaptable, but its aboveground parts will wither when exposed to frost. It has a well-developed root system and is drought-resistant, so it grows well on hillsides. It is not very demanding on soil and can be planted in sandy soil, clay soil, plains, or mountains. However, red and yellow soil is best.

(2) Deep tillage: Daylily is a perennial crop. When tilling the land, deep tillage should be done. Deep tillage is conducive to root growth. The tillage depth is 20-30cm. The soil should be leveled, ridged, and dug into canals to form ridges. To facilitate daily management in the future, the ridge width should be 1-1.5m, and the ridge length is not limited. Convenience is the principle.

(3) Reproduction: ① Seed propagation: This is a method for rapid production of seedlings, but the germination rate of daylily seeds is low, so they must be soaked first to germinate, and can be planted one year after sowing. ② Division propagation: Select healthy and disease-free plants, and dig 1/4 to 1/3 of the tillers from the end of the flower bud harvest to the beginning of autumn seedlings as seedlings, cut them from the shortened stems with roots, cut off the aging roots and blocky fleshy roots, and cut the long fleshy roots short before planting. ③ Slice propagation: From late August to early October, take old daylily plants, cut off the green leaves, leave 5-7 cm long roots, cut them evenly into 2-5 slices with a knife, and then soak them in 800-1000 times carbendazim or thiophanate-methyl for 20-30 minutes before planting. ④ Sprouting propagation: There are numerous hidden buds on both sides of the rhizome of daylily, and the main bud and lateral buds are born at the top. Artificially destroying its apical dominance and promoting the germination of lateral buds can increase the propagation rate by splitting the buds. ⑤ Tissue culture propagation: In order to achieve the goals of fast speed, good quality, low cost and high efficiency, factory-based tissue culture seedling technology can also be used.

(4) Growth stages: Daylily has seven growth stages: February to early to mid-March is the budding stage, mid-March to late May is the leaf expansion stage, late May to mid-June is the bolting stage, mid-June to early July is the budding and flowering stage, early July to early August is the post-harvest leaf withering stage, early August to before the first frost in autumn is the autumn leaf expansion stage, and after the frost to January of the following year is the dormancy stage.

(5) Timely transplanting and reasonable density: Transplanting can be done from the time the flower buds are harvested to the time the spring seedlings emerge in the next year. It is best to transplant by division after the flower buds are harvested. Winter seedlings can emerge in the same year, new roots can be grown, nutrients can be accumulated, and the plants can be put into production the following year. 16,000 holes are planted per mu in rice fields and vegetable gardens with high soil fertility. 2,000 holes are planted per mu in slopes and poor ridges. The best planting method is to alternate wide and narrow rows. After transplanting, water the roots in time and cover the roots with wood ash. After the roots survive, 100-200 kg of human feces and urine per mu are used to water the roots as rooting fertilizer.

(6) Scientific fertilization and irrigation: Reasonable irrigation and drainage. It rains a lot in spring, so the daylily field should be cleared and drained in time to prevent waterlogging. In the hot and dry season from July to August, water should be diverted in time to fight drought, keep the soil moist, extend the harvest period, and increase yield. Water diversion for drought resistance should be carried out in the morning and evening, and rapid irrigation and drainage should be achieved, but not flooding. Daylily likes fertilizer very much and tolerates fertilizer, especially nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Fertilization should be carried out in batches during the spring seedling germination period, the flowering period of the stalk, and the winter seedling development period. Spray Huahua Zhuangdi Ling at the beginning of the stalk to enhance the plant's drought and disease resistance, prolong the function of the leaves, promote the thickening of the flower buds, reduce the shedding of young buds, and increase yield.

(7) Harvesting: The best time for harvesting is when the buds are full and not yet open, the middle is golden in color, the two ends are green, the top is black, and the tip is not open. The requirements for picking daylily are very strict. Picking too early or too late is not good. Picking too early will result in green buds with low sugar content, light weight and poor color, resulting in poor color and low yield of the finished product. Picking too late will result in over-maturity of the buds, cracked and loose buds, and the juice will easily flow out, resulting in poor product quality and difficulty in preservation. The harvesting season is generally from June to the end of August. The best time for harvesting is 1-2 hours before the buds crack. At this time, the yield of daylily is high and the quality is good. The best time for picking is 13:00-14:00. The picked buds should be steamed in time to prevent them from cracking and blooming.
