Do tiles have radiation? How to choose high-quality tiles

Ceramic tiles are a headache to choose because there are many types of ceramic tiles on the market, including floor tiles, wall tiles, full-body tiles, and glazed tiles. Different tiles have different uses in different places and have different characteristics. It is recommended to first understand the purpose of the tiles when choosing tiles. If you want to lay the ground, you should use pressure-resistant floor tiles. Water absorption is an important characteristic of the grade and quality of ceramic tiles. If the water absorption rate of ceramic tiles is relatively high, it proves that the quality of the ceramic tiles is not good. Therefore, when buying ceramic tiles, it is best to conduct a water absorption test first, and sprinkle water on the ceramic tiles. If the water is all absorbed by the ceramic tiles after a while, you cannot buy this kind of ceramic tiles. The ceramic tiles with good hardness, strong toughness, and not easy to break are the best.

Do tiles have radiation?

Tiles have radiation because the raw materials of tiles are radioactive substances such as stone powder, zircon powder, and long sand powder. Some manufacturers even use zircon sand containing radioactive nuclides on the surface of tiles. When choosing tiles to decorate your home, it is recommended to choose Class A tiles, because Class A tiles have a lower radioactivity level and have less impact on human health.

Ceramic tiles have radiation. According to relevant experimental studies, the raw materials of ceramic tiles are stone powder, zircon powder, feldspar powder, quartz powder and other materials, which have certain radioactivity. In addition, in order to avoid tile erosion and facilitate decontamination, some manufacturers will apply a layer of oil on the surface of the ceramic tiles and add zircon sand as an emulsion, and the content of radioactive nuclides in zircon sand is very high.

my country divides decorative tiles into three categories: A, B, and C. Category A tiles have low radioactivity levels and are not restricted in their use. Category B tiles cannot be used for interior surfaces of Category I civil buildings such as residential buildings, but can be used for exterior surfaces and interior and exterior surfaces of other buildings. Category C tiles can only be used for exterior surfaces of buildings and other outdoor uses.

When choosing tiles, you should also pay attention to the fact that the whiter the tiles are, the more additives they may contain, and the greater their radiation will be. The ultra-white tiles among polished tiles have stronger radiation. Therefore, unless the glaze itself is white, large white tiles are not suitable for large-scale paving.

How to choose tiles

When choosing tiles, you should choose according to the type. If you are going to lay the floor, you should use floor tiles. Before buying tiles, you can pour water on the tile samples. If the tiles absorb a lot of water after a period of time, it proves that the quality of the tiles is not good. Use a marker to draw a line on the tile. If it can be easily wiped off, it proves that the glaze of the tile is well made.

Generally, floor tiles are more resistant to dirt, and wall tiles in kitchens and bathrooms also have relatively high requirements for dirt resistance. Before buying tiles, you can draw a line on the surface of the sample tile with a marker, and then wipe it with toilet paper. If it can be wiped off successfully, it proves that the glaze of the tile is well made.

How to choose high-quality tiles

Look at the level

Ceramic tiles are divided into five grades: superior, first-class, second-class, third-class and substandard. The grades will be detailed in the outer packaging or instructions, so please pay attention when purchasing.

Look at the hardness

The best quality tiles are those with good hardness, strong toughness and not easy to break. Use the edges and corners of the broken tiles to scratch each other and check whether the broken pieces are dense or loose, hard, brittle or soft, whether they leave scratches or scattered powder. If the former is the case, it is of good quality, and the latter is of poor quality.

Look at the pattern

Good tiles have clear and consistent patterns and colors, delicate and exquisite workmanship, and no obvious color leakage, misalignment, broken lines or inconsistent depth.

Is the product genuine?

When purchasing, pay attention to whether the labels, specifications and color numbers on the tiles are consistent with those on the packaging box, and whether the product certificate, trademark and quality inspection mark are clear.

Look at the size

Whether the size meets the standard can be judged by the target.

Place the tile on a flat surface to see if its four sides are completely consistent with the flat surface, and at the same time, see if the four corners of the tile are all right angles. Haobao tiles have no defects such as bumps, bulges, and warped corners. The error of the side length does not exceed 0.2-0.3 mm, and the error of thickness does not exceed 0.1 mm.
