How to prevent corn from lodging?

Corn is one of the main crops grown by our farmers. In the production process of corn, lodging often occurs. After the corn plant lodging, no matter how serious it is, it will directly affect the final yield of corn. Therefore, our farmers need to take effective remedial measures according to the phenomenon of lodging in different periods to minimize the harm caused by lodging.

What to do if corn lodging

There are several types of corn lodging, including stem lodging, stem breakage, and root lodging. In addition, the situations after lodging should be treated differently during different growth stages of corn.

If the corn stalk falls over at an angle of 45 degrees and the stalk is bent, you don't need to support it. The corn will grow straight on its own in two or three days. It may affect the yield a little.

If the corn falls from the roots and the whole plant lies on the ground, you must quickly prop it up. After a few days, the corn will bend and it will be easy to break the stems and leaves if you try to prop it up again.

If the corn breaks in the middle and the whole corn is broken into two pieces, it is of no use and it is best to clean out the broken corn.

If the corn has been grafted and has fallen to the ground, it is best not to support it, because the upper part of the corn is heavy after grafting, and it is easy to break during the process of supporting it. It is best to bury the exposed roots again. Corn has been grafted and has fallen to the ground. It will still mature, but the yield will be seriously reduced.

How to prevent corn lodging

1. Field management of corn planting

I won't go into details about what everyone has said, "early planting at the right time, reasonable density, sufficient fertilizer, spraying pesticides", etc. I will just say one thing: if there is frequent rain, spray the strong pesticide "short, big and strong", wade the land to make ridges, and cut off the empty stalks.

2. Tree belts should be planted along the roadsides in the fields to serve as windbreaks.

In recent years, due to the reduction of forest belts along field roads, the phenomenon of corn stalk lodging has occurred more frequently.

How to remedy corn lodging

If the corn stalks are seriously lodged during the period from pollination to grain filling, an actual assessment should be made. If it is helpful to prop them up, it is better to prop them up as soon as possible. This is because after the corn stalks are lodged, the corn will grow new silk overnight. If you prop them up at this time, it is easy to tear the silk off, affecting the growth of the corn.

Supporting fallen corn stalks is a time-sensitive and demanding task. Therefore, after the corn stalks fall, they must be quickly supported to reduce losses.

Farmers can reasonably arrange the planting density of corn according to the fertility of the soil. The plots with good fertility should be sparse, while the plots with poor fertility should be relatively dense. A high density of corn plants is prone to crowding and causing the seedlings to grow too long. Reasonable control can inhibit the excessive growth of the above-ground part, promote the growth and development of the root system, shorten the length and thickness of the internodes at the base of the plant, and have a significant anti-lodging effect in the middle and late stages of corn growth and increase yield.
