Can normal cardiac ultrasound rule out heart disease?

Can normal cardiac ultrasound rule out heart disease?

If the patient's current heart ultrasound is normal, it cannot be ruled out that the patient currently has cardiovascular disease. Cardiac B-ultrasound is mainly used to determine whether the patient's chest tightness, shortness of breath and chest pain are caused by hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy or aortic valve stenosis. However, there are many diseases that can cause patients to experience chest tightness, shortness of breath, and chest pain. The most common one is coronary atherosclerotic heart disease.

For patients who have had a myocardial infarction in the past, certain signs may be found during cardiac ultrasound examination. If you want to determine whether the patient currently has coronary atherosclerotic heart disease, and to determine the severity of the current coronary heart disease, it is recommended that he or she should undergo coronary artery CT or even coronary angiography to confirm it. In clinical medicine, cardiac B-ultrasound is mainly used to assess whether a patient has congenital heart disease, whether there are problems with the heart valve structure, and whether the patient currently has heart failure.

A normal cardiac B-ultrasound result cannot determine whether a patient has heart disease, because there are many types of heart disease, especially early-stage heart disease, such as coronary heart disease and cardiomyopathy, which are not easy to reflect in cardiac B-ultrasound. B-ultrasound of the heart mainly looks at the ejection fraction of the heart, the activity of the heart, whether there are any abnormalities in the structure of the heart, ventricular septal and atrial septal defects, abnormalities in the movement of the heart's ventricular wall, cardiac hypertrophy or reduced ejection fraction, which can be clearly seen on B-ultrasound of the heart. If these are abnormal, it indicates that the patient may have heart disease. However, coronary heart disease is mainly caused by coronary atherosclerosis. This type of coronary artery abnormality is not easy to be reflected in the heart or heart structure in the early stages and is therefore difficult to detect. Early stage heart disease is not easy to detect on cardiac B-ultrasound, and other tests are needed to confirm whether the patient has heart disease.
