What are estrogen drugs?

Estrogen is a substance that promotes the development of secondary sexual characteristics and the perfection of reproductive organs in female animals. It is produced by the uterus, ovaries and embryos of female animals. Estrogen proteins are distributed in the uterus, vagina, breasts, pelvis, skin, bladder, urethra, bones and brain. Therefore, estrogen has a wide range of important physiological functions. It not only promotes and maintains the physiological functions of female reproductive organs and secondary sexual characteristics, but also has a significant impact on endocrine, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, metabolism, bone growth and improvement, skin, etc.

Natural estrogens are mainly estradiol, estrone, and estriol. At present, most of the common estrogen drugs in clinical medicine are compounds artificially synthesized with estradiol as the main component, such as estradiol benzoate, estradiol valerate, ethinyl estradiol, ethinyl estradiol ether, and estrone.

Estrogen application range

1. Female menopausal syndrome: Estrogen can be used for replacement therapy.

2. Breast pain and milk withdrawal: Large amounts of estrogen can affect the efficacy of prolactin, inhibit milk secretion, and relieve pain.

3. Ovarian insufficiency and amenorrhea: Estrogen replacement therapy can promote the growth and development of reproductive organs, uterus and secondary sexual characteristics. When used together with estrogens, it can cause artificial menstrual cycles.

4. Osteoporosis: use dosage to prevent and treat.

5. Multifunctional abnormal uterine bleeding Estrogen can promote endometrial hyperplasia, repair bleeding wounds and activate blood circulation. It can also be appropriately combined with estrogen to regulate the physiological cycle.

6. Advanced breast cancer: Advanced breast cancer patients who have been postmenopausal for more than five years can be treated with estrogen, but it is prohibited for patients before menopause.

Estrogen Side Effects

Large doses may cause nausea, retching, breast pain, excessive proliferation of the uterine wall, and abnormal uterine bleeding. Long-term and high-dose use may increase the risk of breast cancer. Estrogen alone may increase the risk of endometrial cancer and may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and venous thrombosis.

Estrogen medication taboo

It is forbidden to use the product if you are known or suspected to be pregnant, have unexplained vaginal bleeding or endometrial hyperplasia, breast cancer, or estrogen-related malignant tumors; if you have active venous or arterial thrombosis within 6 months, or have severe liver or kidney dysfunction, porphyria, otosclerosis, or systemic lupus erythematosus.
