Why is hyperthyroidism more common during breastfeeding?

Hyperthyroidism, commonly known as "hyperthyroidism", is due to the thyroid gland producing and releasing too much thyroid hormone, which leads to hyperactivity of the body's metabolism and central nervous system excitement, causing symptoms such as palpitations, sweating, increased eating and bowel movements, and weight gain. Most patients also often have symptoms such as exophthalmos, eyelid swelling, and decreased vision. Why is hyperthyroidism very common during breastfeeding?

(1) Three highs, one taboo, and one appropriateness: refers to a high-efficiency energy, high-protein food, high-vitamin diet, an iodine-avoiding diet, and appropriate calcium and phosphorus supplements.

1. Increase energy balance: Sufficient carbohydrates should be provided every day to correct excessive consumption. The daily energy balance is 12552~14644 kJ, which is 50%~75% higher than that of ordinary people, in order to take into account the increase in basal metabolic rate caused by excessive thyroid hormone metabolism.

2. Ensure the balance between protein supply and demand: 1.5 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. However, animal protein should be limited.

3. Pay attention to the balance of vitamin supply and demand: the balance of vitamin supply and demand is rich in various nutrients. Many water-soluble vitamins are consumed in large quantities due to high metabolic energy consumption, especially B vitamins. Vitamin D is an important vitamin to ensure the intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphorus, and its supply should be guaranteed. At the same time, vitamin D and vitamin C should be supplemented.

4. Proper calcium and phosphorus supply and demand balance: In order to prevent osteoporosis and pathological fractures, the calcium and phosphorus supply and demand balance should be appropriately improved, especially for patients with long-term uncontrolled diseases and elderly convalescents.

5. Avoid iodine-containing foods and medicines; iodine is the raw material for the production of thyroid hormones. There is a lot of iodine in the thyroid gland, which accelerates the production of thyroid hormones. Therefore, iodine can cause hyperthyroidism and aggravate the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Therefore, iodine-containing foods and iodine-containing medicines should be avoided, and various iodine contrast agents should also be used with caution.

(2) Increase the frequency of meals: In order to correct the body's consumption, in addition to the three meals a day, add snacks between meals to improve the body's metabolic disorders.

(3) Diet preparation:

Suitable food: According to the patient's usual diet, you can choose a variety of starchy foods, such as white rice, noodles, steamed buns, sweet potato vermicelli, potatoes, winter melon, etc.; animal foods, such as beef, pork, beef; various freshwater fish, etc.; there are also various fruits and foods rich in calcium and phosphorus, such as milk, fruit, live fish, etc. When low in potassium, you can choose oranges, apples, etc.

Avoid choosing food ingredients: Do not eat iodine-containing foods such as kelp, seaweed, hair algae, iodized salt, etc. Chinese medicinal materials such as oysters, kelp, algae, and selfheal are also not suitable.
