The difference between HPV 9-valent and 4-valent

As an effective way to prevent cervical cancer, cervical cancer vaccine has gained the favor of many people in recent years. The types of vaccines have also gradually upgraded from the initial bivalent vaccine to quadrivalent and nine-valent vaccines. The different valences of the vaccines are because they target different types of HPV. The bivalent vaccine can prevent HPV16 and HPV18 (these two virus types are the most carcinogenic in my country), the quadrivalent vaccine adds HPV6 and HPV11 to the bivalent vaccine, and the nine-valent vaccine adds 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58 to the quadrivalent vaccine.

Differences between quadrivalent and nonavalent vaccines

1. Due to the different valences, the quadrivalent vaccine can prevent about 70% of cervical cancer and about 90% of genital warts;

The nine-valent vaccine can prevent about 90% of cervical cancer, about 90% of genital warts, about 95% of anal cancer, about 85% of vaginal cancer, etc. It can be seen that the higher the vaccine price, the wider the range of prevention.

2. In addition to the difference in price, the best age for vaccination is also different for different groups. Internationally, both vaccines are suitable for men and women over 9 years old, and it is best to vaccinate before sexual intercourse.

If you have had sexual intercourse but are not infected with HPV, you can also get the vaccine. According to the situation in my country, the current recommendation is that the age range for the quadrivalent vaccine is 20 to 45 years old, and the age range for the nine-valent vaccine is 16 to 26 years old.

3. Judging from the possible side effects of cervical vaccination, the safety factors of quadrivalent vaccine and nine-valent vaccine are basically the same, but the probability of swelling at the vaccination site is slightly higher with the nine-valent vaccine than with the quadrivalent vaccine. Fortunately, the side effects are relatively mild and short-lived.

4. Since the third quarter of last year, nine-valent vaccines have been launched in China one after another. Due to its wider prevention scope and other factors, the nine-valent vaccine has been more popular among the people and has become in short supply. At present, it is still difficult to book the nine-valent vaccine, and some areas even require "lottery application" for vaccination.

5. At present in my country, cervical cancer vaccines are still paid for by the patient. Although there are price differences across the country, the price of the nine-valent vaccine is significantly higher than that of the four-valent vaccine.
