Difference between primordial uterus and immature uterus

Difference between primordial uterus and immature uterus

The normal uterus is a cavity organ, the cavity is covered with mucosa (i.e. uterine wall), and the uterine wall plays an important role. But is the primordial uterus the same as the immature uterus? So what is the difference between the primordial uterus and the immature uterus?

First of all, we should understand what are the primordial uterus and the immature uterus?

Primordial uterus: The growth and development of the bilateral paramesonephric ducts stops soon after they fuse. The uterus is very small, and most of them have no intrauterine cavity or no solid linear uterus, no uterine wall, and no function.

Immature uterus: It is caused by the fusion of bilateral paramesonephric ducts to form a uterus and the cessation of growth and development, with a uterine wall.

These two methods can distinguish the primordial uterus from the immature uterus

1. Patients with immature uterus partially or completely lack secondary sexual characteristics, have poorly developed breasts, no pubic hair or underarm hair, etc.; patients with primordial uterus generally have normal secondary sexual characteristics, and a very small number of patients have progressive abdominal pain.

2. Patients with immature uterus may experience withdrawal bleeding (menstrual period) when supplementing with estrogen and progesterone, but there will be no withdrawal bleeding after stopping the medication; patients with primordial uterus will not experience withdrawal bleeding even if supplementing with estrogen and progesterone.

If the patient has low blood estrogen and no secondary sexual characteristics develop, the first consideration is that the small uterus is caused by low estrogen, that is, an immature uterus. Of course, the patient may also have low estrogen and a primordial uterus, but this situation is very rare. After that, the patient was given an artificial cycle and had withdrawal bleeding, which should be diagnosed as immature uterus.
