What to check for during the 42nd day of pregnancy

The 42-day check-up after childbirth is actually a comprehensive maternal and child care check-up done in a specific organization from the 42nd to the 56th day after childbirth. This check-up can not only timely handle the mother's postpartum recovery status, but also understand the baby's development status. The mother usually goes to the obstetrics and gynecology department or the postpartum recovery department for examination. If not, just go to the general gynecology and obstetrics department, and the baby goes to the pediatrics or pediatrics department. So what does this check-up include?

First of all, and most importantly, mothers should have a pelvic organ examination, mainly including the uterus, whether it has recovered to its original size, whether it has prolapsed, whether there is any placenta residue in the uterus, vaginal examination of secretions to see if the lochia has cleared, and the healing of the perineum or abdominal wounds. Pelvic function assessment should be performed to understand whether the pelvic function is damaged. In this way, the mothers' recovery status can be judged and targeted treatment and training recommendations can be made.

Breast examination is mainly responsible for mothers' breast discomfort and breastfeeding difficulties. If you have doubts about the quality of your breast milk, you can measure the milk calcium level or conduct a daily nutritional analysis of pregnant women.

The most basic measurement of weight and blood pressure should not be ignored. Measuring weight can determine whether the mother has gained weight too quickly after giving birth, which will affect the quality of breast milk and body recovery. Our blood pressure will change during pregnancy, so it is necessary to accurately measure blood pressure after giving birth to see whether it has returned to the pre-pregnancy level. This is very important for mothers who are pregnant and have hypertension.

On the one hand, urine tests can help mothers with gestational hypertension determine whether they have recovered. On the other hand, they can check whether there is urinary tract infection after delivery, so as to facilitate timely treatment. If there is anemia during pregnancy, postpartum hemorrhage or high fever, a follow-up blood test is necessary to determine whether there is zinc deficiency or inflammation. Patients suffering from pregnancy complications or diseases should also undergo follow-up examinations for related symptoms.

In addition to these, doctors will also provide contraceptive guidance to prevent mothers from getting pregnant again when their bodies have not recovered, which would cause unnecessary risks.

What tests should babies undergo?

Accurately measure body length, weight, baby's head circumference, and cardiopulmonary function tests, which are the most basic tests to assess the baby's nutritional and developmental status. In addition to routine physical examinations, it is also necessary to check whether the baby's umbilical cord has fallen off, whether there is swelling and secretion around the navel, whether the arms are swollen, abrasions, etc.

The central nervous system tests include hearing, vision, motor skills, reflexes, etc., to determine whether the baby has neuromotor development lag. For premature babies, asphyxiated babies, and babies with left and right brain damage before and after birth, this examination should be paid special attention. In addition to these, this examination can also understand the baby's feeding, sleep quality, toileting status, and vaccination at the same time.

Before going for the check-up, mothers should remember to bring the perinatal care guide and the results of examinations during pregnancy and childbirth. Make a list of relevant questions first so that you won't easily neglect them when consulting a doctor. If you don't want to do a liver function test, you generally don't need to fast. If you want to do an abdominal B-ultrasound, you need to hold your urine.
