Is hysteroscopy an examination or a surgery?

Nowadays, many women who suffer from gynecological diseases, such as uterine polyps, adhesions, and uterine fibroids, undergo surgery through hysteroscopy. It is an excellent treatment method that can treat a variety of gynecological diseases, and has the advantages of less damage and fast recovery. So is hysteroscopy an examination or a surgical treatment?

Hysteroscopy is divided into hysteroscopy and hystero-laparoscopy. Hysteroscopy is usually performed on abnormal uterine cavity lesions, such as abnormal uterine bleeding, abnormal uterine cavity space-occupying tissue, abnormal IUD and foreign bodies in the uterine cavity, infertility, uterine adhesions, uterine malformations, post-hysteroscopy evaluation, and pre-operative observation and biopsy of lesions for endometrial and cervical cancer surgery. Hysteroscopic laparoscopy is generally used for the removal of submucosal uterine fibroids, treatment of uterine malformations, removal of endometrial polyps, dissolution of intrauterine adhesions, etc. The two are different.

Hysteroscopy means placing a hysteroscope in the patient's uterus to observe the condition of the uterine cavity and diagnose and treat the changes in the uterine cavity. There are two types of hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery. The first type is hysteroscopic surgery, in which the doctor uses a hysteroscope to observe whether there is any disease in the uterus. The second category belongs to hysteroscopic electrosurgical resection, which means treating uterine disease through hysteroscopy.

Hysteroscopic surgery has many advantages, such as very little vaginal bleeding after the operation and no significant discomfort to the patient. After laparoscopic surgery, patients should pay attention to hygiene, avoid fatigue, and take antibiotics appropriately to prevent infection. They should also avoid sitting baths and having sex, otherwise it is easy to cause postoperative infection.

If the patient has excessive vaginal bleeding after laparoscopic surgery, such as moderate to severe intrauterine adhesions or after removal of the uterine septum, the bleeding is relatively heavy. At this time, you must pay close attention to vaginal bleeding, abdominal pain, and body temperature. If the symptoms do not improve after a few days, or even become more severe, you need to see a doctor for a follow-up visit in time.
