We should also have a certain understanding of the regular changes of the uterus and ovaries.

Briefly describe the regular changes of the uterus and ovaries

A woman's ovaries are basically in a static state from birth to the age of 8. From the beginning of puberty to menopause, the ovaries undergo periodic changes in shape and function, which is called the ovarian cycle. The main changes are as follows.

1. The growth, development and perfection of eggs. After a newborn baby is born, there are 150,000 to 500,000 initial eggs in the uterus and ovaries. During puberty, the initial eggs slowly grow and develop to perfection. Generally, only one egg can grow and develop to perfection in each physiological cycle, which is called a mature follicle.

2. During the ovulation period, the egg gradually emerges from the outside world as it grows and develops. When it is close to the surface of the uterus and ovary, the follicle ruptures, and the egg and egg fluid are injected into the pelvis. This is called ovulation. The ovulation period usually occurs about 14 days before the next menarche. Generally, the uterus and ovaries on both sides take turns to ovulate. After the eggs are discharged, they are picked up by the fimbria of both fallopian tubes and enter the fallopian tubes on both sides.

3. After the production of progesterone and ovulation, the remaining egg wall collapses, blood is injected into the cavity, and the egg wall cells continue to grow and turn yellow to produce progesterone. The average life of progesterone is 14 days. 7-8 days after ovulation, the volume of the corpus luteum is larger, with a diameter of 1-2 cm. If the egg cell is not fertilized, the corpus luteum will shrink and turn milky white in 9-10 days, which is called the corpus albicans. After the decline of progesterone, menstruation occurs, and the uterus and ovaries begin to develop again, and a new regular change begins.

4. Oocyte Atresia: In a woman’s lifetime, only 400 to 500 initial eggs can grow and develop to the ovulation period, while the rest will spontaneously degenerate and lock, becoming atretic eggs.
