The baby often hiccups in late pregnancy

During pregnancy, every expectant mother is worried about what will happen to her body, and you are worried that this or that problem will occur. In the late pregnancy, the baby will often hiccup, which is also a concern for expectant mothers. So why does the fetus hiccup frequently in the late pregnancy? Now let the editor explain it to you!

What causes fetal hiccups?

Hiccups in the fetus are called "hiccups" in medicine. Adults may experience short-term hiccups if they are exposed to cold stimulation, overfull, eat too fast, or eat dry food.

Starting from around 28 weeks of pregnancy, the fetus will continue to absorb amniotic fluid in the mother's body to exercise the breathing of the lungs, and the bronchi will continue to grow in the amniotic fluid. Just like an adult eating, they keep swallowing. Between the chest and abdomen of the fetus, there is a thick muscle membrane like a sun hat, called the diaphragm, which separates the chest and abdomen. Like other organs of the human body, the diaphragm is also covered with nerves and blood supply. When the stimulus causing hiccups is transmitted to the brain, the brain will immediately send out commands to cause the diaphragm to contract and spasm, thus causing hiccups.

Fetal hiccups are abnormal

It is very normal for the fetus to hiccup, just like us adults breathing. Because the fetus's lungs have not yet developed well, it needs to continue to absorb amniotic fluid and train the lungs to breathe while swallowing amniotic fluid, so that it can breathe normally like adults after birth. In other words, the baby's hiccups are actually a way to improve the lungs' breathing ability. Just gently stroke your baby when he hiccups, and the hiccups will go away in just ten minutes.

After the brief introduction by the editor, I believe that all expectant mothers have a certain understanding of the causes of fetal hiccups and whether fetal hiccups are normal or abnormal. In the later stages of pregnancy, it is normal for the fetus to hiccup, because the fetus's lungs have not yet developed well, and hiccups are actually a way for the baby to increase the lung's breathing capacity.
