How much bleeding is normal during ovulation?

For many women, in addition to the menstrual period which is a normal metabolic process, there is also an ovulation period. The ovulation period refers to the 14 days before menstruation, a total of 10 days. During a woman's month, except for the two periods mentioned above, the other periods are called safe periods. Many people would like to ask, how much bleeding during ovulation is considered normal?

What is ovulation bleeding?

A woman's ovulation date is generally about 14 days before the next menstrual period. To be on the safe side, we call the 5 days before and 4 days after ovulation, together with the ovulation day, a total of 10 days, the ovulation period. The rest of the time except the menstrual period is called the safe period. Why do many women bleed during ovulation? Ovulation bleeding, also known as mid-menstrual bleeding, refers to a small amount of bleeding between two normal menstrual periods, which may be accompanied by varying degrees of lower abdominal pain. Clinical manifestations are as follows:

1. Uterine bleeding. During the menstrual cycle with ovulation, ovulation uterine bleeding occurs. The amount of bleeding is small, and some are only brown secretions. It usually stops on its own in 2-3 days, and the longest time is 7 days.

2. Abdominal pain. Cyclic intermenstrual pain can be mild or severe and usually lasts for several hours, but in some patients it may last for 2-3 days.

3. Infertility. It may be caused by stopping sexual life due to ovulation bleeding, thus missing the opportunity of conception. Note: Generally there are no obvious positive signs. The diagnosis can be confirmed by diagnostic curettage, basal body temperature measurement (basal body temperature is biphasic, and bleeding occurs when low and high temperatures change), and laparoscopy. If the symptoms are mild, no treatment is needed. If the bleeding is heavy or affects fertility, medication can be used for treatment.

How much bleeding is normal during ovulation?

If the bleeding is due to physiological reasons, it is normal. The amount of normal ovulation bleeding is not much, but we cannot judge whether ovulation bleeding is normal based solely on the amount of ovulation bleeding.

Before ovulation, estrogen levels reach a peak. During ovulation, the mature follicle ruptures and the egg is released. The estrogen level drops rapidly, causing the endometrium, which has been proliferating due to the nourishment of estrogen, to lose support and cause a small amount of bleeding. Under normal circumstances, this bleeding is extremely short (about 1 to 2 hours), and only red blood cells can be seen in the leucorrhea under a microscope. Vaginal bleeding visible to the naked eye may last for several hours, or 3 to 5 days, but rarely for more than 7 days. In severe cases, it may continue to occur until the next menstrual period.

Some women have very little bleeding, which stops with a few drops, or there is blood mixed in the vagina. Generally, it rarely reaches the amount of menstruation. Bleeding may be accompanied by distension and discomfort, dull pain or obvious pain in one side of the lower abdomen, and may even involve the waist and inner thigh. Symptoms may occur continuously every month or every other month. For some people, they occur for several months each year, while for others, they only experience this phenomenon once in their lifetime. Repeated episodes of ovulation bleeding will affect pregnancy. If this is the case, timely treatment must be received under the guidance of a physician.
