Can syphilis have children?

Children are the continuation of a family, and everyone hopes to have the fruit of love with their loved one. However, due to personal reasons, one does not dare to have children casually, and one's mentality is easily broken at this time, such as syphilis. Everyone knows that syphilis is a contagious disease that can be transmitted from mother to child. So, can a woman with syphilis give birth to a child? Friends who have syphilis must be cautious when having children, otherwise the disease may be passed on to the child and the child’s life will be threatened.

Syphilis is a chronic systemic sexually transmitted disease caused by Treponema pallidum. In the early stage, it mainly manifests as skin and mucous membrane damage, and in the late stage, it invades important organs such as the cardiovascular and nervous systems. Infection in pregnant women can be transmitted to the fetus, causing late miscarriage, premature birth, stillbirth or congenital syphilis. It is recommended to get checked. If it is primary syphilis, you must not get pregnant.

Treatment for syphilis

1. Treatment of stage 1 to 3 syphilis: The treatment of syphilis is mainly based on penicillin. Common penicillin drugs include benzathine penicillin G, also known as long-acting penicillin. Usually patients need to inject intramuscularly once a week, and the symptoms of syphilis can be relieved after 3 weeks. For patients with a history of penicillin allergy, tetracycline hydrochloride or doxycycline can be taken orally for 30 consecutive days instead of intramuscular penicillin.

2. Treatment of neurosyphilis: In order to avoid the occurrence of Gerhard-Hertz reaction in patients with neurosyphilis, hospitalization is usually adopted. However, it should be noted that prednisone should be taken orally one day before intramuscular injection of penicillin, once a day, and the required dose should be taken for 3 days. Then, procaine penicillin G is injected intramuscularly and probenecid is taken orally or aqueous penicillin G is injected intravenously with an IV drip for 14 days. After these treatments, intramuscular injection of benzathine penicillin G is performed, also once a week, for a course of 3 weeks.

3. Gestational syphilis: In order to avoid excessive medication affecting the fetus, pregnant women should reduce the dosage and duration of drug treatment. Treatment is usually focused on the first three months of pregnancy and the last three months of pregnancy, and the treatment period is divided into two cycles. Pregnant women who are allergic to penicillin can be treated with erythromycin instead.

What are the early symptoms of syphilis?

Usually after being infected with syphilis, there will be an incubation period. During the incubation period, there are no symptoms. Syphilis will enter the blood circulation through sexual transmission. Usually, the presence of syphilis can only be detected through serum testing in the hospital. After 70 to 60 years of age, latent syphilis will turn into primary syphilis, which is what we call early syphilis. The most typical symptom of early syphilis is chancre.

Usually, chancres begin to appear around the genitals, with obvious protrusions, distributed in 2 to 3 single locations, hard to the touch, painless and itchy, and with clear ulcer boundaries. After 4 to 5 weeks, chancroid may heal itself. Some patients may also experience enlarged lymph nodes, which usually occurs 1 to 2 weeks after the onset of chancre. Like chancroid, the swollen lymph nodes are hard in texture, non-adhesive, non-ulcerated, and painless.
