Can an ectopic pregnancy be detected with a pregnancy test stick?

Many women are very worried about ectopic pregnancy when they are pregnant. Because the early symptoms of ectopic pregnancy are very similar to those of normal pregnancy, it is easy to be overlooked. Some people think that if it is an ectopic pregnancy, the pregnancy test stick cannot detect the pregnancy. There are many different opinions on this. If it is just a simple pregnancy test, there is no need to worry too much. So, can an ectopic pregnancy be detected with a pregnancy test stick?

1. In the case of ectopic pregnancy, pregnancy test sticks can also be used to detect pregnancy, but the result is often a weak positive. This is because the HCG concentration in the body of an ectopic pregnancy is lower than that in a normal pregnancy, so a weak positive result will appear clinically. However, as the ectopic pregnancy develops further, strong positive results will appear clinically. In this case, it is best to go to the hospital to have a blood test for HCG, and then have another blood test every other day based on the results. If it only increases a little bit from the original basis but does not double, then the possibility of ectopic pregnancy is relatively high and sufficient attention should be paid to it clinically. It is recommended to do an ultrasound examination, mainly to understand whether the gestational sac is inside or outside the uterus, so as to confirm the clinical diagnosis.

2. Ectopic pregnancy can also be detected by early pregnancy test strips. Although ectopic pregnancy does not occur in the uterine cavity, the HCG value in the body will also change accordingly. It’s just that in the case of ectopic pregnancy, the HCG value in the blood is slightly lower than that of intrauterine pregnancy. Therefore, in the early stages of ectopic pregnancy, a weak positive reaction often occurs when using early pregnancy test strips. As the pregnancy progresses, a strongly positive result may also appear. Therefore, ectopic pregnancy can also be detected using early pregnancy test strips.

3. If it is an ectopic pregnancy, it can be detected with a pregnancy test paper. The symptoms of ectopic pregnancy are amenorrhea and a pregnancy mark will be displayed on the pregnancy test stick. If the pregnancy test shows lower abdominal pain or a little vaginal bleeding, it is recommended to go to the hospital immediately for a detailed examination to rule out ectopic pregnancy.
