Recurring bloody lochia

Recurring bloody lochia

After giving birth, the mother's body will not recover quickly, and discomfort symptoms will continue for a period of time. It is also very normal to have lochia discharge, which is the residual tissue in the female body. Generally speaking, the lochia will be basically eliminated in about 10 days. If bloody lochia is still discharged repeatedly after a month, it is necessary to consider that it is caused by external infection.

Is it normal to have bloody lochia again 10 days after delivery?

If lochia lasts for more than a month, it may be related to the following diet:

1. Tissue residue

Residual tissue may cause symptoms to last longer, be mixed with blood clots, and be accompanied by bouts of abdominal pain. It may be due to uterine malformation, uterine fibroids, etc., or it may be due to the unskilled operation operator, resulting in incomplete removal of the pregnancy tissue, causing some tissue to remain in the uterine cavity.

Another situation is that the amount of bleeding suddenly increases 2-3 weeks after delivery, or even heavy bleeding occurs. This may be due to poor uterine involution at the placental attachment site, residual placental membranes or decidua, or infection of the uterine incision.

2. Uterine contractions

If increased bleeding occurs immediately after delivery, it may be due to poor uterine contraction, birth canal laceration, placental retention and abnormal coagulation function. This situation is postpartum hemorrhage, not as simple as lochia. This often happens in hospitals, and the situation can be averted with timely treatment from medical staff on site.

3. Uterine infection

Intrauterine infection may be caused by immediate sexual intercourse after delivery, taking a tub bath, unclean sanitary napkins, or by the operator's failure to strictly disinfect the operation. At this time, the lochia has a foul odor, there is tenderness in the abdomen, and it is accompanied by fever. A blood test shows an increase in the total white blood cell count.

4. Pre-existing conditions

In addition to being prolonged, abnormal lochia will generally appear as the color of rotten sauce or washed meat, and be accompanied by a foul odor. It may also be accompanied by fever, abdominal pain, uterine tenderness, etc., and it may recur repeatedly. The cause of this situation is generally due to cervical erosion, cervical polyps, or even cervical cancer.

How to care for postpartum lochia

During the three weeks when lochia is discharged, women are physically weak and prone to ascending infection. Therefore, ensuring the cleanliness of the vagina is a very critical step.

1. Ensure the cleanliness of the genitals

According to traditional concepts, mothers cannot take a bath or wash their hair during the confinement period. In fact, this approach is unscientific. The mother should wash the vulva with warm water every day, and make sure to clean the lochia and dirt in the vulva and anus; change sanitary pads frequently, and the sanitary pads should be packaged intact. When changing pads, do not touch the center of the sanitary pad with your hands to prevent contamination; change underwear frequently to ensure that the vulva is clean and dry.

2. Sexual intercourse is absolutely prohibited within 2 months after delivery, and if it is a caesarean section, sexual intercourse can be had after 3 months.

3. For healthy pregnant women, proper movement out of bed is beneficial to the discharge of lochia. When the body is recovering, the mother can be encouraged to get up and move around appropriately, which will help the circulation of qi and blood and the discharge of residual turbidity in the uterus.

4. Keep the indoor air circulating to remove foul air, but pay attention to keeping warm and avoid catching cold. If you have blood heat syndrome, you should not wear too warm clothes.

5. Rest in bed, avoid emotional excitement, keep a good mood, comfort the patient, eliminate mental worries, and pay special attention to unexpected mental stimulation.

6. Strengthen nutrition and eat a light diet, avoiding raw, cold, spicy, greasy, and indigestible foods. To prevent warm food from encouraging evil, eat more fresh vegetables. If the patient has qi deficiency, he can be given chicken soup, longan soup, etc. If the blood is hot, you can eat fruits such as pears, oranges, and watermelons, but they should be taken warm.
