What is the normal range of pelvic floor muscle fatigue?

Childbirth and aging can both lead to relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles, especially after childbirth, no matter which method of delivery is chosen. If the pelvic floor muscles are not repaired, the vagina will become loose, gynecological diseases will occur, and urinary incontinence and other phenomena will occur after entering old age. In fact, whether the pelvic floor muscles are loose or not can be determined through testing.

Normal range of pelvic floor muscle fatigue

Because each pelvic floor testing instrument sometimes displays different results. For example, if the French Sugiyama tester shows type I or type II muscle, its normal muscle strength is level 4-5, and the fatigue level is generally displayed as 0, which is normal. If it is a negative value, it means that it is quite tired. Usually, some companies produce pelvic floor rehabilitation therapy devices that are rated on a percentage basis, which is to indicate how much percentage of the normal muscle strength has reached. For example, if the score is above 80 points, it is normal, and some scores below 80 points are defective. The lower the score, the worse the corresponding muscle strength may be.

Sometimes muscle strength testing is not completely based on this value, because some patients may not be able to use force. If they use incorrect force or do not know how to use pelvic floor muscle strength during pelvic floor muscle strength testing, the measured value cannot show the true muscle strength. Therefore, as a medical staff conducting the examination, you may need to use your hands or guide the patient on how to use the pelvic floor muscles and then perform muscle strength tests.

What to do if the pelvic floor muscles are relaxed?

When women experience pelvic floor muscle relaxation, it manifests as relaxation of the vaginal wall, such as stress urinary incontinence, or it may manifest as organ prolapse. For the relatively common uterine prolapse, if the symptoms are not severe, functional exercises can be used to help the pelvic floor muscles restore their normal elasticity and toughness and improve the relaxation of the pelvic floor muscles. This exercise is called anal contraction exercise.

When doing the exercise, first contract your anus, hold for three seconds, and then relax. Repeat this movement 10-15 times as one set, and you can do 2-3 sets a day. If you persist for 6-8 weeks, your symptoms will be significantly relieved. However, for women with more severe symptoms of pelvic floor muscle relaxation, it is difficult to get relief through anal contraction exercises. You can have full pelvic reconstruction surgery, and your symptoms will be relieved after the surgery.
