【World Kidney Day】Young people in the hemodialysis room

“If only we had discovered it sooner.”

“Why didn’t I take good care of my body?”

The most painful thing in life

The word "regret"

Today, let's talk about kidney health.

In the hemodialysis room of Beichen Hospital, there are several "special" young people who are only in their twenties or thirties but have to come to the hospital for dialysis regularly. Age is a high-risk factor for many chronic diseases, but as diabetes and hypertension become younger and younger, chronic kidney disease hidden behind them is also gradually falling on young people.

24-year-old Zhuangzhuang (pseudonym) has been on dialysis in our hospital for four years. Four years ago, he had just entered university. If he had not been diagnosed with proteinuria and hematuria during a physical examination, he would not have known that he had chronic nephritis . His kidney function had been irreversibly and permanently damaged, and the situation became increasingly serious, eventually leading to uremia . He attends classes during the day and comes for dialysis treatment after class at night. In his words, he comes here three times a week to "extend his life."

Junjun (pseudonym) is 30 years old this year. He had a history of chronic nephritis , but he never took it seriously and never went to the hospital for regular diagnosis and treatment . Not long ago, he began to feel weak all over and had no appetite for anything. A month later, he remembered to go to the hospital. When he got the results, the doctor couldn't help but feel regretful: hemoglobin was 51g/L, which was already a severe anemia state, and blood creatinine was as high as 1102umol/L. In order to save his life, he had to undergo dialysis immediately.

In our hospital's hemodialysis room, 45 hemodialysis machines are running at full capacity, and there are 6 young people under the age of 30. Their kidneys are already "rotten" and not working. If there is no suitable "kidney source" for transplantation, they will have to live like this in the future.

(In the family waiting area of the hemodialysis room, the doctor explains the popular science knowledge of "renal anemia") In recent years, the number of patients with uremia has increased year by year, and the trend is getting younger . According to the latest "Annual Scientific Report on Kidney Disease in China", the prevalence of chronic kidney disease in China is 10.8%, which means that 1 in 10 people has kidney disease . According to other relevant statistics, 4 out of every 10 patients with uremia are between 10 and 30 years old .

(Nursing staff explains "Home Care for Hemodialysis Patients")

Because kidney disease has an insidious onset , early renal damage is difficult to detect, or some minor early symptoms are often ignored.

When obvious symptoms appear, it indicates that the condition is serious. This is why many people are diagnosed with kidney failure or even uremia as soon as they are diagnosed.

Therefore, we must be vigilant about the early " help signals " -

In addition to the above symptoms, chronic kidney disease may also cause loss of appetite, anemia, frequent urination, urgency, oliguria and other symptoms. If you suspect that you have been infected, please seek medical attention in time!
