What is the meaning of pelvic floor muscle

Many women feel some discomfort in their bodies after giving birth, which is normal. Some women also experience problems such as vaginal relaxation. This situation is most likely caused by damage to the pelvic floor muscles. Therefore, some women have heard that they must pay attention to the repair of the pelvic floor muscles after giving birth, but they do not know exactly what pelvic floor muscle repair is. So what does pelvic floor muscle mean?

1. The pelvic floor muscles refer to the muscle group that closes the pelvic floor, namely the pelvic floor muscles. This muscle group is like a "hanging net". The urethra, bladder, vagina, uterus, rectum and other organs are tightly suspended by this "net", thus maintaining their normal position so that they can perform their functions. The pelvic floor muscles are like a spring, connecting the pubic bone, coccyx, etc. together.

2. Once the elasticity of this "net" deteriorates and the "hanging force" is insufficient, the organs in the "net" will not be able to maintain their normal position, resulting in corresponding functional disorders, such as urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, etc. Involuntary leakage of urine when abdominal pressure increases (such as when coughing, sneezing, laughing) is a manifestation of stress urinary incontinence. Frequent urine leakage will cause your underwear to have an unpleasant odor that cannot be washed away. In more serious cases, you may need to use sanitary pads, which causes great inconvenience to your life. Insufficient "lifting force" can also manifest as pelvic organ prolapse (uterine prolapse, anterior/posterior vaginal wall bulging) and fecal incontinence. Middle-aged and elderly people often go to the hospital for treatment because they find swelling prolapsed from the vulva. However, due to late diagnosis and severe prolapse, patients often miss the opportunity for early rehabilitation treatment and have to undergo surgical treatment.

3. The pelvic floor is a network of muscles, ligaments, and tissues that span the pelvis. Its important job is to support your pelvic organs, including your uterus, vagina, bladder, and bowel. The pelvic floor has openings for the urethra, vagina, and anus to pass through. During pregnancy and childbirth, the muscles of the pelvic floor are stretched. The weight of the baby, hormones causing your tissues to relax, and the effort of giving birth can all put stress on this part of your body. When your pelvic floor is weakened or damaged, you may leak urine (stress incontinence) and, more rarely, have fecal incontinence. Daily pelvic floor exercises can help you regain bladder and bowel control after your baby is born. Having a good pelvic floor can also enhance vaginal sensation, making sex more satisfying.
