I didn't have my period but there was blood, what's going on?

Many women are concerned about the time of their menstruation, because some women may experience delayed or advanced menstruation, while some women have bleeding symptoms in their lower body even though it is not their menstrual period. No matter what the situation is, women are very worried because these are all abnormal manifestations, so they must be taken seriously. So what is the matter if there is bleeding but no menstruation?

1. If there is a small amount of vaginal bleeding before the menstrual period, and there is no lower abdominal pain or any other discomfort, it is considered to be caused by endocrine disorders, that is, premenstrual spotting caused by luteal insufficiency. In this case, you can supplement progesterone in the second half of the menstruation. Take progesterone capsules orally on the 16th day of the menstruation, once a day, two capsules at a time, for a total of 10 days and then stop taking the medicine. After stopping the medication, menstruation will occur clinically in 3-7 days. The treatment can be continued for two menstrual cycles to see if abnormal bleeding will occur before menstruation again.

2. If you don’t have your period but there is blood, it is abnormal vaginal bleeding. If you have sexual intercourse, you must rule out pregnancy, such as threatened miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. If it is determined that the bleeding has nothing to do with pregnancy, it is recommended to check color Doppler ultrasound. The main purpose is to understand whether there are endometrial polyps or submucosal uterine fibroids, which may cause vaginal bleeding. There is also cervical cancer screening, TCT and HPV to find out if there are any cervical lesions and cervical polyps. If there are any problems, surgery is required.

3. Another possibility is the contraceptive ring, which is indeed one of the causes of abnormal genital bleeding. About 25% of women who use copper IUDs notice that their periods are becoming longer and heavier. Another type of birth control ring that contains a small amount of levonorgestrel, a progestin hormone, can also cause abnormal bleeding in the first three to six months of use. The benefits of using this contraceptive ring are that regular menstrual periods may become shorter and shorter, and the amount of blood will gradually decrease. If the contraceptive ring is displaced and moves to the incorrect position, you will feel discomfort and may also experience abnormal bleeding from your lower body.
