What is Lower Cross Syndrome?

Clinically, some diseases will have some impact on people's body shape. For example, some people often have some false buttocks. This situation may be a pathological phenomenon caused by some diseases. Therefore, in clinical practice, we must also pay attention to distinguishing the symptoms and types of the disease, so as to solve the disease problem fundamentally. So what is lower crossed syndrome?

1. Lower cross syndrome is a pathological phenomenon of pelvic position deviation, especially obvious from the side. The normal pelvic position is in the neutral position of the human body, with the anterior superior iliac spine and the posterior superior iliac spine on the same horizontal line. Or the anterior superior iliac spine is slightly lower than the posterior superior iliac spine. If the posterior superior iliac spine is higher than the anterior superior iliac spine by more than 5°, the pelvis is tilted anteriorly. The anterior tilt of the pelvis and excessive curvature of the lumbar spine lead to a "protruding front and hunched back" posture. If the pelvis is tilted too much, the internal organs protected by it will slide downward along the slope, causing a bulge in the lower abdomen. The excessive bending and deformation of the spine will cause the "false buttocks" that we often see.

2. Lower cross syndrome is caused by local muscle imbalance due to pelvic tilt. Some muscles are stronger and more tense, while some muscles are weaker. The stronger and more tense muscles are: erector spinae and iliopsoas. The weaker muscles are: abdominal muscles and gluteus maximus. People with big bellies are prone to lower cross syndrome, such as men with beer bellies, pregnant women, and ladies who often wear high heels. Because these people's center of gravity moves forward, they will pull their bodies forward, but people walk upright, so at this time they will use the strength of the waist to maintain balance. If this continues for a long time, it will lead to muscle imbalance in the body.

3. Lower cross syndrome is quite harmful and can cause excessive lumbar curve, affecting the lines of the entire spine and lower limbs, such as X-shaped legs, O-shaped legs, etc. Lower cross syndrome can put pressure on the lumbar spine and knee joints, causing lower back or knee pain. At the same time, the shift in center of gravity may also cause hyperextension of the knee joints. In addition, incorrect body shape can cause local muscles to be too tense, affecting the body's movement ability and causing unnecessary risk of injury. It can also easily cause dysmenorrhea, constipation and chronic fatigue.
