List of dietary taboos during confinement

Avoid dieting too early

Women gain weight from pregnancy to postpartum. Some women start to restrict their diet after giving birth in order to restore their figure. In fact, the reason for weight gain after childbirth is due to the increase of water and fat in the body. If you breastfeed your baby, a lot of water and fat will be consumed. If you start to diet during the confinement period, it will affect the supply of nutrition to the baby, and the nutrition needed for the body to recover is not enough.

Avoid eating too many eggs

During the confinement period, many women will eat eggs for nourishment. Eating eggs can not only supplement the nutrients needed for the body's recovery, but also improve the quality of breast milk. However, it is not advisable to eat too much eggs. Excessive consumption will increase the burden on the liver and kidneys, which is not conducive to the excretion of high cholesterol in the blood caused by pregnancy, and it is easy to cause continuous increase in cold cholesterol. Therefore, during the confinement period, it is not advisable to eat more than 6 eggs a day, and they should be eaten in two meals.

Avoid taking too much brown sugar water

Pregnant women lose a lot of blood when giving birth, and need to breastfeed their babies after delivery, so they need to supplement a lot of iron. Brown sugar can both replenish blood and provide calories. It is a good iron supplement. However, it is not advisable to drink too much brown sugar water during the confinement period. Drinking too much brown sugar water for a long time will lead to an increase in lochia blood volume, aggravate maternal blood loss, and cause anemia. Therefore, it is advisable to drink brown sugar water for 7 to 10 days during the confinement period.

Avoid spicy food

Spicy food can also cause heat in the mother's body, leading to symptoms such as mouth ulcers, constipation and hemorrhoids. If a mother who is breastfeeding has internal heat, it will affect the baby through breast milk, causing heat in the baby's body. Therefore, mothers should not eat spicy foods such as garlic and peppers during the confinement period, and should not drink alcohol.
