How much vaginal discharge is normal

Leucorrhea is a female vaginal secretion. Leucorrhea is divided into four degrees, and each degree is different. Its main essence is protein. Degrees one and two are relatively mild. If it becomes degree three and four, it should be taken seriously. If the leucorrhea is abnormal, it can easily cause other gynecological diseases. Women's bodies are inherently weaker. If they are infected by external bacteria and viruses, they will be more likely to become physically weak and become pathogens of bacterial and viral infections.

The cleanliness of leucorrhea is usually divided into four degrees, among which degrees three and four indicate the possible presence of vaginitis. When the white blood cell count does not exceed the normal range, and there are no trichomonas or fungi, and the leucorrhea secretions are relatively clean, it is the first degree of cleanliness. The second degree means that there are a few more white blood cells than the first degree. These cells are slightly more when seen under a microscope, which is the second degree. The cleanliness of the first and second degrees are considered within the normal range. Generally, the cleanliness of the leucorrhea is not clean when it reaches the third degree or above. There are more white blood cells and the leucorrhea is turbid. There may be some problems and need to be checked.

Leucorrhea is a female vaginal discharge, which is a mixture of vaginal mucosal exudates, cervical canal and endometrial gland secretions. Its formation is related to the action of estrogen. Under normal circumstances, the quality and quantity of leucorrhea changes with the menstrual cycle. After the menstruation is over, the leucorrhea is less in amount, white in color and in a paste form. In the middle of the menstrual cycle when the ovaries are about to ovulate, due to the vigorous secretion of the cervical glands, the leucorrhea increases and becomes transparent, slightly sticky, and egg white-like. 2 to 3 days after ovulation, the leucorrhea becomes turbid, thick and sticky but with less amount. Before and after menstruation, due to pelvic congestion, vaginal mucosal exudate increases and leucorrhea often increases.

1. Cheese-like or tofu-like leucorrhea: It is candidal vaginitis, often accompanied by severe vulvar itching or burning pain.

2. Thin, purulent, yellow-green, foamy, foul-smelling leucorrhea is characteristic of Trichomonas vaginitis, accompanied by vulvar pruritus.

3. Grayish white, thin, fishy-smelling leucorrhea is a characteristic of bacterial vaginosis, accompanied by mild vulvar itching.

4. Purulent leucorrhea: yellow or yellow-green in color, sticky, and often has a foul odor, caused by bacterial infection. It can be seen in gonorrheal Neisseria vaginitis, acute cervicitis and endocervicitis, vaginal cancer or cervical cancer complicated by infection. Purulent leucorrhea can also be caused by uterine cavity pyometra or foreign bodies retained in the vagina.

6. Watery leucorrhea: Vaginal discharge that is thin, watery or rice-like and has a fishy odor. It is seen in advanced cervical cancer, vaginal cancer or submucosal fibroids with infection. Intermittent discharge of clear, yellow-red or red watery leucorrhea should be considered as a possible cause of fallopian tube cancer.

7. Bloody leucorrhea: There is blood mixed in the leucorrhea, and the amount of blood varies. Cervical cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical polyps, cervical columnar epithelium ectopia with infection or uterine submucosal fibroids should be considered. Insertion of an intrauterine device can also cause bloody leucorrhea.
