What to do if your legs are swollen during 7 months of pregnancy

Because when you are seven months pregnant, the pressure from the belly will cause your lower limbs to be slightly swollen. This swelling will make it difficult to wear shoes, your pants will become tighter than before, and you may even experience pain and tenderness. It is normal for pregnant women to have edema at this time. It cannot be ruled out that it may be related to calcium deficiency. You need to pay attention to your diet and care in life to slowly alleviate this situation.

Pregnant women with swollen legs should pay attention to 5 points and see a doctor in time for swelling of the body

In the later stages of pregnancy, many expectant mothers' legs and feet begin to swell, their original shoes can no longer be worn, and their pants feel tighter than before. In this regard, Zhang Yan, deputy chief physician of the obstetrics department of Peking University Third Hospital, pointed out that 40%-60% of pregnant women will experience edema after 6 months of pregnancy, but some swelling is normal while some is problematic.

Generally speaking, after lying down to rest or a night's sleep, the symptoms will be alleviated or disappear completely the next morning. This is normal physiological edema, which may start from the feet, swell to the ankles, calves, thighs, and sometimes even perineum edema. Some pregnant women also develop systemic edema. In this case, you should be extra vigilant and see a doctor in time to rule out abnormalities in the liver, kidneys, blood pressure, etc., such as pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome, poor renal function, liver disease, etc. If the edema is severe, diuretic treatment may be necessary.

When edema occurs, pregnant women should pay attention to the following points:

1. When you have edema, you should eat light food and avoid eating too salty food. The daily salt intake should be 5-6 grams. In particular, do not eat too much pickles and pickled vegetables to prevent edema from worsening.

2. Eat enough protein. Pregnant women with edema, especially those whose edema is caused by malnutrition, must ensure that they eat animal foods such as livestock, poultry, meat, fish, shrimp, eggs, milk, and bean foods every day. This type of food is rich in high-quality protein.

3. Eat more vegetables and fruits, especially winter melon, watermelon and other fruits, which are rich in potassium and fructose that cannot be quickly used by the body. They can reduce water in the body, have a diuretic and detoxifying effect, and are very effective in preventing and reducing edema during pregnancy.

4. Pay attention to rest. Standing for too long or walking for a long time will increase swelling of the body.

5. Raise your legs to relieve soreness and swelling. Finally, we must remind you that if your weight increases by more than 1 catties within a week, it may be hidden edema and you should pay attention to it.
