Postpartum body temperature

Postpartum body temperature

During the confinement period, many women will have a body temperature higher than normal. In fact, the occurrence of this phenomenon does not mean that the mother herself has a fever. A big reason is that the progesterone secreted by women during pregnancy causes the body temperature of women to rise. The normal body temperature during confinement is around 37 degrees, which is no different from that of ordinary people. The method of measuring temperature during confinement is to use a thermometer to measure the armpit or anus.

What is the normal body temperature during confinement?

1. It is normal for an expectant mother to have a body temperature of 37 degrees. The average normal human body temperature is between 36 and 37 degrees Celsius (axillary). Exceeding this range is a fever, below 38 degrees Celsius is a low fever, and above 39 degrees Celsius is a high fever. The above is dangerous. When taking body temperature, you should first shake the mercury column of the thermometer to below 35℃, and then wipe and disinfect it with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. Currently, most people test the temperature by holding the thermometer under the armpit. For young or unconscious children, rectal temperature measurement can be used.

2. When measuring the temperature under the armpit, wipe off the sweat in the armpit first, then place the end of the thermometer with the mercury column under the armpit and clamp it, then take it out after 5 minutes. When measuring rectal temperature, first apply some oil on the round tip of the rectal thermometer for lubrication, then slowly insert it into the anus about 2 cm deep, and remove it after 3 minutes. When measuring rectal temperature, hold the thermometer with your hand to prevent children from breaking the thermometer and injuring the anus. When looking at a thermometer, you should hold it horizontally and rotate it slowly, taking the horizontal line to observe the temperature scale indicated by the mercury column. After use, the thermometer should be disinfected with 75% alcohol.

What are the reasons for high body temperature in pregnant women?

1. Neurological aspect: The "sensors" in women's skin are more sensitive than those in men's, and women have the mission of reproducing offspring. During pregnancy, the fetus in the uterus needs a constant temperature environment, and the uterus is in the torso, so the woman's torso needs to be more closely protected. To achieve this goal, the "sensors" in women's skin must be more sensitive.

2. Hormones: The female ovaries produce the corpus luteum, and the secretion of progesterone by the corpus luteum will cause the body temperature to rise. The body temperature regulation center is extremely sensitive to the effects of progesterone (also known as progesterone). A certain amount of progesterone (12.8nmol/L) can cause the body temperature to rise.
