What causes pain in the left lower abdomen during early pregnancy?

When a woman is pregnant, the estrogen level in the body will change. The increase in progesterone will cause women to experience some physical discomfort, which is often called early pregnancy reaction. The more common ones are nausea, vomiting, preference for sour food, drowsiness, emotionality, and sometimes bloating and other discomforts. Generally, as the gestational age increases, they will disappear around three months of pregnancy. When you feel pain in the left lower abdomen during pregnancy, it may be due to the following reasons.

Generally speaking, left-side abdominal pain in early pregnancy is caused by two changes:

Physiological changes: If the embryo implants in the uterine cavity in early pregnancy, a small number of women will experience implantation pain. As the uterus continues to grow, the round ligament of the uterus will also be stretched, and many pregnant women will feel abdominal pain to varying degrees. This type of pain is mostly located on one or both sides of the uterus in the lower abdomen, and is referred pain, dull pain, or lack thereof. The pain becomes more obvious when walking a long distance or changing body position. These can cause left side abdominal pain in early pregnancy.

Pathological changes: If a pregnant woman experiences abdominal pain, especially pain in the lower abdomen, the first thing she should consider is whether it is a pregnancy complication. Common complications include threatened miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy. If a pregnant woman experiences paroxysmal lower abdominal pain or regular abdominal pain, back pain, or pelvic pain in the first few months of pregnancy, the problem may be more complicated. If it is accompanied by vaginal spotting or a noticeable feeling of abdominal heaviness, it may indicate threatened miscarriage. If you experience severe unilateral lower abdominal pain, accompanied by vaginal bleeding or fainting, it may be caused by an ectopic pregnancy. Abdominal pain in early pregnancy accompanied by bleeding does not necessarily mean miscarriage. If the abdominal pain is severe, you should go to the hospital immediately.

In short, during pregnancy, especially in the early stages of pregnancy, because the placenta has not yet fully developed, try not to do strenuous exercise. You should also pay attention to your diet. Try not to eat raw, cold, or irritating foods. Some foods that can easily cause miscarriage and are cold in nature should also be eaten as little as possible. If you find yourself feeling unwell, go to the hospital for examination in time.
